2023 Presidency: New Nigeria Group Promises Compulsory Employment … Set Structure In A’Ibom

 By UbongAbasi Ise

A non-governmental organization, The New Nigeria Group, has unveiled its plan to facilitate the emergence of a reformed leadership in 2023 that would serve as a break from bad governance in Nigeria.

During the inauguration of Akwa Ibom State chapter of the group in Uyo yesterday, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, the New Nigeria Group convener, assured Nigerians that with the group’s vision, it will be possible to get all adults in the country employed.

Ohuabunwa said Nigeria’s large population could not be an impediment to mass employment given the potentials in the country but noted that the real challenge is lack of employment roadmap.

“It (employment) is possible except for those who do not want to work or you are retired or you are sick or you are incapable of working. I want every adult in Nigeria to work and it is possible. How many are we?  Our number is not the issue; the issue is that we have failed to plan for that number,” he said.

Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa disclosed that the vision of New Nigeria Group is to make the country attain True Federalism in the first 100 days in office, saying it is the present systematic structure that strangulates the country’s growth.

“True federalism is what we are going to achieve in the first 100 days in office. We are going to let Nigeria be completely reorganized by the owners of the country. Without restructuring Nigeria, Nigeria will not work well. This present structure strangulates us; it doesn’t allow us to float and be the best we could be. For our country to move forward, we have to restructure and rearrange our relationships; the relationship that is willingly and mutually beneficial,” said Ohuabunwa.

While speaking with newsmen shortly after the inauguration ceremony, the convener of The New Nigeria Group believed that corruption in the country will be basically tackled with improved minimum wage, saying the current wage regime throws workers into the poverty, thus making them susceptible to corruption.

Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa also said that attempt would be made to stem the tide of insecurity in the country by ensuring that all Nigerians get fair and just treatment.

“The issue of Nigeria’s insecurity is not ethnic but it is injustice. People are feeling mistreated, maltreated, misjudged, and marginalized. We meant to solve it and create a country that works for everybody:  Whether you are from the North, South, East or West we will ensure you are treated well. Whether you are the rich or the poor you are treated well; whether you are strong or weak, you are treated well.  With this, insecurity will end. There is nothing the ethnic in the north wants that is different from what the ethnic in the south wants.  We want justice, equity and fair-play. Nobody wants to be cheated; nobody wants to be misaligned; nobody wants to be misjudged, and nobody wants to be marginalized,” he declared.

Meanwhile, membership of the New Nigeria Group cuts across all political parties with state chapters established accross the country. The following are the members of Executive Council of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter that were inaugurated by Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, the convener of the group: Rev. (Engr) J. B Effiong, Chairman; Dr Etido Ibekwe, Vice Chairman; Eld. (Pharm.) Edet Eniang, Secretary; Mr. Tony Okpon, Uyo Senatorial District Coordinator; Chief Atako Okporo, Eket Senatorial District Coordinator and Pharm. Isong Isang, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Coordinator.
