Beautiful A’ibom, A Lost Entertainment Paradise?

Image
By UbongAbasi Ise Akwa Ibom State is aptly considered to be a home of beauties, place of exquisite delicacies, the land of exciting cultures, rich histories and all manner of hospitability. However, the just concluded Face of Akwa Ibom 2019 organized in Uyo by the management of Slyz-B Movies Music Production & Modeling   Agency has desperately called for the fervent interrogation to find out why the state is still wobbling under the burdens of identities despite its huge potentialities. The pageantry served as an ample reminder that, beyond the beautiful faces of Akwa Ibom ladies, there are natural, raw talents in the state that are yet to be tapped by the ever-demanding entertainment industry. There was a clear message that Akwa Ibom is still virgin and open for the exploration for talents. As excitable as the state could be,    yet there is palpable lack of stride in the area of entertainment, and by extension, tourism industry. The story of Akwa Ibom entertainment appear

Police Brutality: After Victor David, Who’s Next?

Image
By UbongAbasi Ise Police belongs to the league of necessary evils that civilization could not progress without. Since policing is the lifeblood of governance, and without it no government could be effective, we allow reckless brutality and extreme cruelty roughly known by mankind to thrive inexorably on the back of this security outfit. Out of pure motive to safeguard our societies and civilizations from sliding into chaos and anarchy, or descend to Thomas Hobbes’s original state of nature in Leviathan where life was solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short, we have no choice other than to tolerate both weaknesses and excesses of the police institution.   But where do we go from here? In Nigeria, despite the unending timeline of all manner of police brutalities on the hapless, poor civilians, no sane mind could ever reckon that the institution be scrapped. Instead there have been several efforts, both vapid and concerted, to reform and sanitize it, and unfortunately, some el

On Udom’s Blasphemous Thanksgiving

By UbongAbasi Ise Religious teachings are of aggregated convictions that the Almighty God is a supreme being that is good in nature; excellent in manifestations; positive in intention; truthful in dealings; perfect in justice; and holy in existence. If these fine attributes are exactly what defines the Only God most of the world believes in, then this premise can lead to the conclusion that God is not a being that takes glory in evil and negativities. In other words, it could be deduced that God can’t be associated with bloodletting, bribery, election rigging, repression of the peoples’ will by way of vote-buying, ballot snatching, manipulation of election results, and couldn’t in any way, be a part of victory earned through cunning and underhand ways. To those that congregated at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday 29 th March, 2019 at the instance of Governor Udom Emmanuel to thank the Almighty God for granting their principal victory in the just concluded contest
