INEC Ad Hoc Staff Recruitment: PDP Council Chairmen, Ors Substitute Lists

By UbongAbasi Ise

There is growing fear that ad hoc staff lists expected to be published before the general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, may lose all the credibility as the qualified applicants are said to be abandoned for those brought forward by the local government council chairmen and other officials belonging to Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.
A source privy to the INEC in the state recently told our correspondent in strict confidence that politicians have come out to connive with the unscrupulous elements in the commission in order to substitute the lists of the qualified applicants with the ones that contain their cronies who would assist them in rigging the elections in favour of the PDP.

It would be recalled that a 3-day training for those applying for the INEC temporary job took place last week in all the local government areas in the state. Examinations were conducted for the applicants as one of the recruitment processes that would aid the commission in selecting more qualified persons for the polling officers’ position.
It therefore seems the aim of the recruitment examinations will likely be defeated if the fresh ad hoc staff lists allegedly introduced by the politicians see the light of the day.
Another undisclosed source who may be serving as a supervising polling officer, SPO, for INEC in the forthcoming elections in the state has disclosed to our correspondent that some applicants were mobilized last week and transported to and fro the training venues by some political contractors with the condition that N20,000 would be deducted from their allowances should they be given opportunities to work as INEC polling officers.
Meanwhile elections to the office of the President, the Senate and the Federal House of Representatives will take place on Saturday 16th February, 2019 while the Governorship and State House of Assemblies elections are scheduled for March 2, 2019.
