Essien Udim Council Boss Faces Impeachment Threat … Akpabio Lauds Arc. Ubokutom Nyah … As Abak Abandons Moses Ekpo

Given the waves made over weekend by the Akwa Ibom All Progressives Congress, APC, it is becoming clear that the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, is having a very slim chance of surviving in Essien Udim after mass defection hit the local government council.
At the local government secretariat at Afaha Ikot Ebak where the APC staged its governorship campaign rally which turned out to be a carnival of some sort, six of the eleven serving councilors in Essien Udim dumped PDP and joined the APC along with the Chief of staff to the council chairman, including the supervisors.
Councilors that defected into the APC include the leader of the legislative council, Mr. Uduakobong Udoutin; deputy leader of the legislative council, Mr. Ekerette Akpakpan; house leader, Okokon Uwak; the deputy house leader, Uduak Afangideh; Eseme Akpan, and Edemeka Udo-Ekpe.
Mr. Uduakobong Udoutin, a representative of Senator Godswill Akpabio’s ward, Ukana West (ward 2), while speaking on behalf of the defectors, hinted on the possible impeachment of the council chairman, Mr. Raphael Isogbara in the matter of weeks as the APC councilors now formed the majority in the House.
Udoutin expressed optimism that the remaining council members will join the APC before the elections commence.
While declaring the demise of the PDP in his local government area, Senator Godswill Akpabio was expressing his disappointment over the council chairman’s refusal to toe the path of Essien Udim people that elected him into office, warning that his aloofness may cost him political appointment in the future.
Commenting on mass defection of councilors, Senator Akpabio said: “The councilors were elected by the Essien Udim people. You have decided to follow your leader and there is nothing anybody can do about it. This local government area is hundred percent APC. I am humbled by the love and respect showed by my people.”

He further commended the Chairman of APC caucus in Essien Udim local government area, Arc. Ubokutom Nyah, for a job well done in the area, while revealing that he had assured Arc. Nyah that his coming into the APC will not alter the existing party structures in the local government area.
The APC gubernatorial candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere, who was visibly elated by the warmth reception accorded him by the people of the area, said Essien Udim is a special local government area that can give him over 100,000 votes recalling how the local government area gave him the highest votes during primary election held in October 2018.
At Abak carnival-like campaign rally, Senator Akpabio revealed how he facilitated the emergence of Mr. Moses Ekpo, an Abak indigene, to become a deputy, but he turned out to become a huge disappointment to his people.
It was apparent that Abak people have withdrawn their support for their kinsman, Mr. Moses Ekpo, as they jeered him in absentia whenever he was referred to by various speakers at the campaign rally.
