Uruan and Uyo local government
areas where the campaign train of the All Progressives Congress, APC, berthed
today have expressed their dissatisfaction with the incumbent state
government under Mr. Udom Emmanuel, promising to vote out the Peoples’
Democratic Party, PDP in the forthcoming polls.
Mr. Anthony Udo, who spoke on
behalf of the youths in Uruan, said for over three years, the state government
has not sited any viable industry in the area apart from seeking to establish
cattle ranch for Mexican cows at Adadia, saying the project has not won the
support of Uruan people.
Mr. Udo recalled how Mr. Udom
Emmanuel proposed to site cemetery at Uruan local government instead of
bringing industries to the youths of the area, a move that was roundly rejected
by the people.
Also speaking, Mr. EffiongUdo,
the Uruan Chapter Chairman of APC, stressed that there is no road linking
southern Uruan with the northern part of the local government, calling on the
APC governorship candidate, ObongNsimaEkere to construct the road that will be
linking the two sections of Uruan when voted into office.
At Uyo campaign, the former
Commissioner for Sports, Prof. Chris Ekong, decried how Uyo becomes, in the 3 ½
years of the government of Udom Emmanuel, the most marginalized local
government in the state, noting the absence of industries and viable projects while
urging the people of Uyo to reject the PDP government by voting for Obong Nsima
Ekere and other APC candidates.
The former Chairman of Uyo local
government council and the APC flag-bearer for the Uyo Federal Constituency
election, Mr. Ekerette Ekpenyong, slammed Mr. Udom Emmanuel for seizing the
revenue generated by the transporters in Uyo local government area for the
State Ministry of Transport, while calling on ObongNsimaEkere to reverse the
trend when he comes into office on 29th May. Similarly, Former
Minister of State for the FCT, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, while taking a
swipe at Mr. Emmanuel of not being in the class of Obong Nsima Ekere in terms
entrepreneurial and administrative sagacity, asked Mr. Ekere to bring back
motor parks to Uyo for the local government to raise income for its own development.
In his remark, the APC
governorship candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere, while berating the incumbent for
disregarding Uyo’s master-plan,
promised to revert to the design of the capital city in accordance with
its master-plan.
Mr. Ekere promised Uyo people that
his government will bring back the market and motor-park to the local government.
The immediate past Managing
Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission also reiterated his
commitment to pay civil servants promotion arrears, gratuity, and pension on
regularly basis and promised that his government will not only resume payment
of bursary to Akwa Ibom students but
will increase it from N5000 to N25000
Meanwhile in Southern Uruan Ward 5
in Uruan local government area, the political leader, Engr. Gregory Udofia had led
thousands of supporters from PDP to the APC while members of the league of
businessmen in their hundreds also moved to join APC in Uyo, and they
were received into the party by its state chairman, Otuekong Ini Okopido.
