The Ikono State Constituency representative, Mr. Victor Udofia, believes his constituency is unfairly treated by the present state government as it only gained 3.8 kilometers of roads under the tenure of Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
Mr. Udofia, who received the All Progressives Congress, APC, when the party’s campaign team touched down on Ibiaku Ntok Okpo weekend said despite given Udom Emmanuel over 38,000 votes in 2015, his local government is losing out in the sharing of the democratic dividends, but lauded Obong Nsima Ekere for providing Ikono with over 18 kilometers of roads.
“As I speak to you, I stand on good authority, Udom Emmanuel as governor, with the entire budget of the state only give 3.8 km of road in Ikono for 3 ½ years,” he stated.
The lawmaker, while addressing the Obong Nsima Ekere, the former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, said his constituency will vote him as the governor in the forthcoming polls.
“As an immediate past MD of NDDC, when we put all your projects together, you have given us over 18 km. We have no reason not to our return votes to you as the next governor of Akwa Ibom State,” he said.
In his speech, Obong Nsima Ekere said Itak-Ndiya road, Nung Ukim road, Urua Edet Ukpom-Ibakachi road and several other projects have been undertaken as the intervention of the NDDC under his watch.
Senator Godswill Akpabio, who also took the venue by storm, said over 30 students of Ikono extraction have been given about N100,000 in scholarship and a lot of others benefiting from his empowerment programmes.
The Senator, who has Ikono under his senatorial district, said he has constructed about 20 mega stalls in Uduk market, provided pipe-borne water in Uduk; three classroom blocks at Methodist school, ibiaku ntok okpo; contructed toilet facility at Ediene market;  provided solar power  and water project at mbiabong, amongst other projects.
Meanwhile at Ini local government where the campaign train earlier berthed, Senator Akpabio said he had given N500,000 to hundred students in Ini; undertook  projects such as construction of road from Mbiabong Ikot Udofia junction through Urua Offiong Aran, and provided solar powered water project at Urua Offiongaran, amongst other projects.
Also In Ini, Obong Nsima Ekere said under his watch, NDDC had completed 4 kilometer of Mbiabong-Ikot Udofia-Nkari road; constructed Odoro Ikpe-Mbiabet Ikpe road through the Rice Mill; awarded the contract of Odoro Ikpe-Ukwok- Nung Ukim road; Ebok -Itu Mbonuso road; Nna Enin- Ibiono Enwongo Road; and Oduk-Edem Idim-Ibakessi road.
Mr. Ekere said he said has declared Ini and Ikono local government areas as special development area as their infrastructural deficits have a wider gap in comparison with some local government areas in the state.
