Nsima Ekere Explains Why He Still Remains NDDC MD …To Resign From NDDC In Days … Commissions Uniuyo Access Road
By UbongAbasi Ise
Obong Nsima Ekere, the Managing Director of
Niger-Delta Development Commission, NDDC, is in his last days at the helm of affairs
at the commission, and he has taken to social media to hint on his exit in a
matter of days.
Taking to his twitter handle, Obong Ekere, who is
the gubernatorial flagbearer for the Akwa Ibom All Progressives Congress, APC,
in the forthcoming polls, said he is in his final days, after he officially
commissioned a 3.7km dual carriageway leading into the main campus of the
University of Uyo.
“As I approach my final days at @NDDCOfficial, I
officially commissioned a 3.7km dual carriageway and solar powered light
leading into the Main Campus of the University of Uyo,” the tweet reads.
In
response to a troll who sarcastically demanded to know why the NDDC boss still
stays at the helm of NDDC even as the election he is contesting in is on the
horizon, the former deputy governor said according to law, he is to resign 30
days before his election.
As
the tweet reads, “the constitution (section 182) says otherwise, my dear friend
@kezielive. I will not stay in NDDC longer than I'm supposed to, according to
the law - which is 30 days before my election.”
Wednesday, the NDDC Managing Director was
commissioning a 3.7 kilometre dual carriageway and solar powered light leading
into the Main Campus of the University of Uyo in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, a day
after a busy campaign schedule in Ibiono and Itu local government areas.
During the commissioning of the road, Ekere said the
era of poor quality work and abandoned projects in the NDDC was long gone
because of the control measures put in place by the present NDDC board and
management after assumption of office two years ago.
He noted that the commission has executed over 300
projects in Akwa Ibom in the last two years under his watch, 90 per cent of
which have been completed.
Prof. Inyang Udofot, the Deputy Vice Chancellor
(Academic) of the University of Uyo, who
represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Enefiok Essien, appreciated the NDDC
Managing Director for including the university among beneficiaries of its
various projects.
According to her, "The approach road into this
campus was an embarrassing feature of our university and you have saved us from
this embarrassment because you are our own. You shared this embarrassment. The
University of Uyo will not forget this gesture. Thank you sir and may the good
Lord bless you and your future endeavours. "
