Akpabio, Nsima Ekere Give Assurance To 5,000 Sacked Teachers … As 6,000 Cooks, 15,000 Keke Operators, 3,800 Minibus Drivers, Ors Dump PDP
By UbongAbasi Ise
The duo of Senator Godswill
Akpabio and Obong Nsima Ekere were moved with sympathy as the 5,000 secondary
school teachers allegedly sacked by Governor Udom Emmanuel recounted their
misfortunes in the hands of the incumbent state government.
Mr. Sunday Akpan, who led the
embattled teachers as they stormed Uyo Township Stadium Monday to officially
declare their decampment from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to the All
Progressives Congress, APC, lamented that some of the 5000 teachers have died,
many have psychologically been traumatized as the result of the unwarranted sack,
while a handful of others have moved out of the state to look for alternative
means of survival.
Mr. Akpan further noted that the National
Industrial Court has been approached for redress, but bemoaned how Mr. Udom
Emmanuel uses taxpayers’ money to battle them in court, saying Udom
Emmanuel-led government has failed the state while expressing hope in Obong
Nsima Ekere as the man who will restore confidence of Akwa Ibom youths in
government.
It became an electrifying
atmosphere as the teachers openly declared their membership for the APC in the
presence of the party’s governorship candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere, and Senator
Godswill Akpabio whose administration gave them employment in 2015.
While reacting to the incident
of the purported sack, Obong Nsima Ekere, said the essence of government is to
create jobs for citizens as every responsible government must be concerned if
its citizens are employed or unemployed. He lauded the 5,000 teachers for
taking a lawful step by approaching the court of competence jurisdiction to
address the matter while asking the aggrieved teachers to relax as the days of
the incumbent state government is numbered.
“I am happy that you took a
lawful step going to court. The incoming APC government will be the government
that will respect the rule of law. We will respect the decision of the court.
You cannot have a government that is lawless. When you are running a government,
you must respect all court orders. So I want to assure you to relax. You can
count the remaining days, they are not much. We will do the right thing when we
return,” he assured them.
Moved with compassion, Senator
Godswill Akpabio stressed that the over 5,000 teachers that were illegally
dismissed by Udom’s government have mothers,
fathers, siblings and children
that look up to them, hinting that Obong Nsima Ekere will address their
grievances.
Also, over 6,000 members of Ibom
Primary School Cooks Association were led by Dr. Abasiama Anamnyie to decamp
from the PDP to APC at Uyo Township Stadium.
According to the group leader Dr.
Anamnyie, the cooks were endlessly cheated by the PDP government operating in
the state. She revealed how the N70 bonus and other entitlements given to them
by the federal government have always been seized by Udom’s government.
The APC was delighted to receive
from the PDP over 15,000 members of Tricycle (Keke) Owners Association of
Nigeria, TOAN, led by its coordinator, Mr. Udeme Udoidung. The association has
branches spread all over the 31 local government areas in the state.
Other groups that defected from
the PDP to APC during the governorship campaign flag-off on Monday include Akwa
Ibom State and Township Service Minibus Owners and Drivers Association whose
leader, Comrade Vincent Emmek-Abasi , moved with 3,800 members into the APC
fold.
Over 7,000 members of Mboho Nto
Annang Welfare were led by Elder (Dr.) Thursday Akpan and Adede Mbre Isaac
Udofia to the APC from PDP, while 5,000 members of Grassroots Mobilizers for
Good Governance were led by Comrade Victoria Uko to declare membership for the
APC.
Other defectors from PDP to APC include
100 members of the Association of Film and Television Students, National Film
Institute led by Owoedinyene Jacob and Atiku Prayer Group for Good Governance
consisting of 1,200 members led by Ubong Isaiah.
