You Have Disgraced Onna – Kinsmen Tell Gov. Udom … As Sen. Udoedehe Spits Fire
By UbongAbasi Ise
Bishop Samuel Akpan, the Chieftain
of All Progressives Congress, APC, and the kinsman of the incumbent Governor of
Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, says the dismal performance of the governor
in the last 3 ½ years has brought disappointment
to the good people of Onna local government area where they hail from.
Speaking at the APC
gubernatorial campaign flag-off in Uyo yesterday, Bishop Akpan begged Akwa Ibom
people to allow Governor Emmanuel a peaceful disengagement from the Hilltop
mansion after his impending defeat in the forthcoming election.
He said it will behoove the Governor’s
kinsmen to accompany their own son back home as he will be vacating the Government
House in the coming months.
“It is the responsibility on
our part, as the fathers and mothers of Udom Emmanuel, to seek a peaceful advance
from the Government House in peace so that we can take Udom Emmanuel home
because he has done absolutely nothing worthy for Akwa Ibom people.
While reeling out apologies on
behalf of Mr. Emmanuel, Akpan named Obong Nsima Ekere as the solution to the
underperformance of the present state government.
“I have come to plead and appeal
to you to allow us take him peaceably home. I am apologizing for his dismal,
absolute awful performance. It is for me to go on my knees and ask you to
forgive him. But let him go in peace. Udom Emmanuel has disgraced our people;
he has disgraced me; he has disgraced his family; he has disgraced his fathers;
he has disgraced his mothers; he has disgraced the stakeholders. That is why
God has given us Nsima Ekere,” he said.
Another top Onna politician, Senator
(Mrs.) Eme Ufot Ekaette, stressed that the governorship of Mr. Udom Emmanuel
has done more harm than good to her people as Onna local government is divided
along clannish fault-lines with palpable polarization existing between Awa, the
governor’s clan, and others, while praying that the administration of Obong
Nsima Ekere should come and address the wide cleavages bedeviling the local
government and reunite all sections of Onna once more.
It was another surprising
moment at the venue of the rally as Mrs. Iniobong Udeme , who claimed to be Governor
Udom Emmanuel’s cousin, left the governor who is seeking reelection on the
platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to declare support for the
rival APC, expressing frustration over Udom Emmanuel’s dakkada philosophy, empty
promises to family members, and the
governor’s refusal to follow the footsteps of his predecessor, Senator Godswill
Akpabio.
Mrs. Udeme said she has seen
victory in the APC and declared total support for the governorship ambition of
Obong Nsima Ekere.
Another powerful speaker who took
a swipe at the Onna-born state governor at the campaign rally was Senator John James
Akpanudoedehe. While thrilling the mammoth crowd during his goodwill message
delivery, Akpanudoedehe accused Mr. Udom Emmanuel of using state funds to
accumulate properties for his private use, adding that, unlike the governor,
Obong Nsima Ekere built his personal houses before he became the state deputy
governor in 2011.
"Udom Emmanuel built his
first house in his first 100 days in office whereas Nsima Ekere had built
houses in Ewet Housing and Port Harcourt before he became the Deputy Governor.
Udom has been using Akwa Ibom State funds to build his own personal houses. So,
between Nsima Ekere and Udom Emmanuel, who is a thief?, " he queried.
Senator Akpanudoedehe further slammed
incumbent governor for being ungrateful to his predecessor who facilitated his
emergence as Governor in 2015.
According to him, "I have
struggled for a long time to become governor. A man handed over a Government
House to you in a platter of gold and you are insulting that same man and you
are calling yourself a "pastor." Have you not seen in the Holy Book that
ungratefulness is a sin?"
