AKHA Deputy Speaker, Chairman and Executive Council of Okobo, PDP Structure in Okobo Eulogize Deaconess Ikwo Okpo
The Deputy Speaker and Member representing Okobo State
Constituency in Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Princess Felicia Bassey
has said that the death of Deaconess (Mrs) Ikwo Okon Okpo, mother of a renowned
journalist and media consultant, Elder Edet Okpo, at the age of 76 must be
accepted with total submission because the deceased was a committed soldier of
Christ all through her life on earth.
The Deputy Speaker gave the encouragement while on a
condolence visit to Elder Edet Okpo on the death of his mother, Deaconess Ikwo
Okon Okpo at his Shelter Antique Extension residence, earlier today.
On the entourage of the Deputy Speaker were the Chairman and Members of the Executive Council of Okobo Local Government
Area, Hon. Ubuo Ubuo, Members of the Legislative
Council of Okobo Local Government, serving
and former councilors, State officer of PDP, Mr. Emmanuel George as well as PDP Structure in Okobo, led by Hon. Maurice
Fimbar.
The Deputy Speaker in her remarks said the visit was
necessitated by the sad news of the death of Okpo's mother and as such she and
her team had to identify with him and family in the moment of grief.
She stated that although the demise of the mother was
very painful, Okpo has to take solace in the fact that her mother had a good
relationship with God and her departure therefore was a home calling.
"We are here today to sympathize with you as one of
us in whose moments of joy and pains we must share. Although this moment pains,
we are happy with you that it was not the reverse. For that reason, because God
knows and designs everything, you have to be consoled by His promises to
reunite the dead with the living in His kingdom"
Continuing, Hon. Felicia Bassey said it was comforting to
see Okpo as a replica of her mother in acts of godliness, hard work and
humility which are qualities that will continue to sustain and lift him up.
"We see your late mother in you - your character and deeds. I can only ask
you to keep on, don't fear anything, stick to what is right that your mother represented
and inculcated in you, because God will never abandon you", she encouraged.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman, Okobo Local Government Area, Hon. Ubuo
Effiong Ubuo, said Elder Okpo had reasons to thank God that he lived to bury a
great woman who sacrificed selflessly and contributed to what he is today.
Adding that God permits whatever happens in one's life, the Chairman however
advised Elder Okpo and family to keep the good track record of virtue and fear
of God the mother bequeathed.
"Already, I am pleased and proud to observe that,
with my dealings with you over the years as a friend and brother, you have
proven to be a good son of a God-fearing mother. I hope, and I know, you will
keep that legacy".
Elder Okpo in his response said that he was greatly
touched by the visit and presence of the team in his house. He stated that, in
truth, although the death of his dear mother at a time she would have enjoyed
him most was painful, living to bury her lessens the pains.
"My mother dedicated me to God right at birth. It
may interest you to know today that because of the circumstances of my birth
and growing up years, I was the most beloved of my mother and I loved her
dearly in reciprocation. So her death means a lot to me because my life is a testimony
to her prayers and cares for me. However, your coming to reassure me of your
love after her departure has strengthened me. It means I still have you around
me as pillars of support".
Hon. Felicia Bassey and Hon. Ubuo Ubuo both signed the
condolence register.
According to the burial program, the burial holds
tomorrow Friday, March 22, 2019 at
Methodist Primary School, Ikono Offi, Okobo local government area, by 10
am and will be conducted by The Apostolic Church Nigeria.
