Save Us From Marginalization – Oro Nation Begs Ekere … As AKIIPOC MD, Former Councilor, Thousands Ors Join APC
By UbongAbasi Ise
The people of Oron, Urue
Offong/Oruko and Okobo local government areas where the campaign train of the
All Progressives Congress, APC, toured on Wednesday, have bemoaned marginalization
of Oron Federal constituency, calling on Obong (Dr.) Nsima Ekere to reduce the
infrastructural deficit in the area when voted into office under the platform
of the APC.
Mr. John Anwana, who spoke on
behalf of the youths at Oron Township Stadium, lamented how the state
government led by the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, neglects the local
government area, while noting that Mkpong Street in Oron, where the presenting
legal adviser of the PDP and other key members of the party are residing, is still
largely deplorable despite several promises by the incumbent state governor, Mr.
Udom Emmanuel, to fix the road.
He lauded Obong Nsima Ekere for
using Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to repair internal roads in
Oron, including renovation of school blocks as well as execution of several
other projects in the area.
Chief C. Ubokulo who spoke for
the elders, told the immediate past NDDC Managing Director that Ibom Deep
Seaport is one project that is very dear to the hearts of Oro people and urged him
to adopt it as the front-burner project when he assume the leadership of the
state government.
Ubokulo further called on Mr.
Ekere to work with President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that Oron-Calabar road
project is executed in order to link the area with Cross River State.
At Ayubia in Urue Offong/Oruko
local government area, the youths’ representative, Mr. Robinson Edumoh, said
the area has been left out in the scheme of development as there is no good
road in Urue Offong/Oruko. He noted that the local government area has a
massive sand beach but could not be easily accessed because of lack of good
road, while calling Obong Nsima Ekere to respond to infrastructural needs of
the area.
At Okopedi in Okobo local
government area where the campaign team finally touched down, the event took more
exciting dimension as Chief Dr. Friday Antai, who recently resigned his
appointment as the Executive Director of AKIIPOC joined APC with over 3,000 PDP
supporters and was received by the State APC Deputy Chairman, Dr. Ita Udosen. In
his brief remark, Antai promised that Okobo will vote massively for all the APC
candidates, stating that the local government area can no longer be deceived by
the PDP.
Another notable personality that
defected in Okobo was Chief Okon Enemah, Chairman of the Newspaper Corporation,
Akwa Ibom State.
Earlier on in Oron, Mr. Magnus
Archibong, former Oron local government council vice Chairman; Mrs. Roseline
Bassey, former councilor; and Jimmy Edem Umoh, a powerful political stalwart in
the area, led their thousands of supporters to the APC and handed them over to
the party state Chairman, Otuekong Ini Okopido.
Meanwhile, Obong Nsima Ekere, had
promised Oro nation to make their dream of having Ibom Deep Seaport a reality
when he comes into office.
The Governorship hopeful promised to work with
the Federal Government and Senator Nelson Effiong, the lawmaker representing
Akwa Ibom South District in the Senate, to ensure that Ibom Deep Seaport
becomes a reality
He said that apart from the deep
seaport, industrial city project will be sited in the area to drive job
creation and employment.
