We Can Make A’Ibom Work Again – Nsima Ekere

·         N25,000 Yearly Bursary To A’Ibom Students
·         Flag off of conditional cash transfers of N5,000 to the extreme poor, N5,000 to orphans
·         N100,000 per delivery for multiple birth mothers
·         N5,000 for the physically challenged, in addition to their participation in a skill acquisition programme.
·         N20 billion to be launched for the funding of transformative entrepreneurs (TEs)


Private businesses in Akwa Ibom State will soon experience an era of resurgence while thousands of opportunities will be thrown open to the unemployed youths in the state should the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere, be elected in the next year’s gubernatorial election.

During the press Conference at the APC Campaign Ground at 4 Lane, Uyo on Monday, the flag-bearer of APC for 2019 Governorship elections enunciated the Campaign Manifesto christened 'My Agenda'- The Five Pillars of Change’ promising that his government will address the twin challenges of mass unemployment and poverty with massive investments.
To address the issue of non-performance of businesses in the state, Obong Ekere said his administration will launch a N20 billion fund to raise a critical mass of transformative entrepreneurs, TEs, that will use creativity and innovation to grow the private sector and create wealth adding that “about 6,000 TEs will be produced and empowered every year (24,000 in four years) to stimulate the economy and create no less than 120,000 jobs.”

In the area of creating jobs while putting money in the pocket of artisans, suppliers, and contractors, he promised to embark on massive public works with the aim to reflate the economy. He also disclosed the plan to flag off conditional cash transfers of N5,000 to the extreme poor, N5,000 to orphans; N100,000 per delivery for multiple birth mothers and N5,000 for the physically challenged, in addition to their participation in a skill acquisition programme.

Obong Nsima Ekere said his government will also domesticate key Federal Government economic programmes such as the MSME Clinic, the Bank of Industry sponsored GEEP project, Anchor Borrowers Programme, and NIRSAL to boost the state’s economy.

On Ibom Deep Seaport, the former deputy governor said if he makes it to the Hilltop mansion next year, his administration will support the delivery of the project and further engage the private sector with similar projects to ensure they are actualized.

Hope was brought to Akwa Ibom State students as he promised to support them by raising their bursary from N5,000 to N25,000 per session while also revealing plans to institute an annual award for the overall best-performing secondary school in the State in WASCE/NECO exams.

For quick impact in the first 100 -180 days in office, Obong Nsima Ekere said his administration will Initiate an audit of on-going key infrastructure projects to determine their respective status; resume work on the Uyo- Ikot Ekpene Road; start the process of putting the Four Points by Sheraton to use; resume work on Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Complex; commence work on the Third Ring Road, Uyo; commence the review and implementation of the Ibom Science Park project

On the longer term, Ekere said his administration will collaborate with the Federal Government on the proposed construction and dualization of the Abak – Ekparakwa – Ette and Ekparakwa-Ukanafun-Iwukem-Ogbor Hill Trunk a Roads as well as the construction of the Ikot Ekpene -Aba Road while proceeding with the immediate commencement of work on the Third Ring Road in Uyo; fast track the Urban renewal of two towns in each Senatorial District; open the access road to the Ibom Deep Seaport; renew the Port City of Oron to boost its status as a historic centre of learning, commercial and cultural excellence.
To bring about the balance in the infrastructural development in the state, he said “the eight local government areas of Ukanafun, Ini, Ika, Oruk Anam, Mkpat Enin, Ibesikpo Asutan, Ibiono and Ikono will be declared Special Development Areas that require special infrastructure interventions.”

The Governorship hopeful has founded his new vision on five pillars  which include Economic Prosperity; Infrastructure and Rural Development; Education, Health and Social Protection; Security; and Governance and Institutional Reforms.
