Idongesit Ituen Reinstated To AKHA Seat
By UbongAbasi Ise
The rising tension engulfing the
Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly over the sack of five lawmakers may come
under control as the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo said the member representing
Itu State Constituency, Prince Idongesit Ituen, is a bona fide member of the
House pending the determination of the Appeal Court Judgment.
The presiding judge, Justice
Fatun Riman, granted the Stay of Execution application filed by Mr. Ituen, following
last Wednesday’s ruling of the Federal High Court which empowered the Speaker
of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to declare the seat of the Itu
lawmaker vacant.
It would be recalled that the
Speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, had on Monday,
declared vacant the seats occupied by Mr. Idongesit Ituen ( Itu); Nse Ntuen (
Essien Udium); Gabriel Toby (Ika/Etim Ekpo); Otobong Ndem (Mkpat Enin); and Victor Udofia (Ikono), following their
recent decampment from PDP to APC.
It became rowdy when the apparent
supporters of the embattled lawmakers thronged the premises of the State House
of Assembly to protest following the information that the Speaker of the Akwa
Ibom State House of Assembly, in accordance with the ruling of the Federal High
Court, would be convening an emergency plenary to officially declare Mr.
Idongesit Ituen's seat vacant.
Meanwhile, media report has claimed
that Mr. Idongesit Ituen was manhandled by the Speaker’s protocol officers and
was prevented from joining Monday’s plenary before the vacation order was read
and upheld by the Speaker, Barr. Onofiok Luke.
