Akwa Savings Customers Decry Inability To Withdraw Deposits
A very senior citizen of Akwa Ibom State who operates an account with the only State owned bank, Akwa Savings and Loans Bank says the bank has once again relapsed into a state where it can no longer honour cheques of its customers.
The customer of at the bank who does not wants his name in print told The Sensor authoritatively that the bank had experienced similar circumstances in the past and it was attributed to government's overdrafts which were used to sponsor political programmes.
“An insider at the bank confided in me that the government recently withdraw millions of Naira from the bank and that is why it has no money to pay its customers who sent in cheques to withdraw their money. I am suffering the same fate. I gave them a cheque to withdraw money needed for the effective running of my business but they cannot pay me and this has really affected me.
I am told that even government ministries which own accounts there cannot be paid” our source explained.
Another source told The Sensor that so far, several staff of the bank have been relieved of their appointments due to the inability of the bank to pay their wages.
