Tragedy In A'Ibom As School Roof Falls On Pupils

It was a sad tale of woes and wailings for teachers and students of Community Secondary Commercial School Ifiayong Usuk Uruan yesterday as the roof housing one of the building blocks came crashing down on students and teachers.
The sad event, which occurred at about 9.10am during second period of classes, led to about twelve students sustaining injuries while desks and tables were destroyed.
 Gov. Udom Emmanuel (r)
in a warm handshake with the
Commissioner for Education,
Prof. Victor Inoka
One of the teachers who witnessed the sad occurrence while speaking to our reporter on condition of anonymity said that all they could hear was a loud crack and the roof came down crashing on students and teachers alike. "About twelve students sustained injuries and were quickly rushed to a nearby drug store for immediate first aid while one of the teachers who collapsed was resuscitated with water".
A student who identified herself as Naomi said she has never seen such a thing before in her life and thanked God for her safety and those of her classmates.
Our reporter who went to the school to see things for himself noted that the classes which had nothing less than one hundred and twenty students each inside, was in such deplorable condition begging for government immediate attention.
The sad occurrence also brings to the fore the consistent agitation for the overhauling of infrastructure in schools across the State.
Other teachers and students who bared their minds to our reporter called on government to come to the aid of the school to renovate the structures while also making provision for the reduction in the ratio of students to teachers in the school as well as other schools across the State.
