Udom Set To Fire Uwemedimo Nwoko … Declared Akpabio Boy

By UbongAbasi Ise

More heads are expected to roll in the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council following Governor Udom Emmanuel’s surprise sack of the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, Dr. Uduak Charles-Udoinyang, and the suspension of the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Sir (Dr.) Val Attah on Wednesday.
One of the aides of the State Governor, who did not want to be named, disclosed to our correspondent that the Governor’s axe is currently dangling on the head of the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, and may strike in no distant time.
The source said Barr. Nwoko fell out of favour with the state governor following Paul Usoro N1.4bn scandal where bench warrant was issued by a Federal High court sitting in Lagos against him and three other State officials.

It would be recalled that, in an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the N1.4bn fraud charges against the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Paul Usoro, SAN, the Akwa Ibom State Attorney General was alleged to have been a complicit in the said corruption offences along with the Cashier at the Akwa Ibom State government house, Margaret Ukpe; state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Linus Nkan; and the Accountant General of the state, Mfon Jacobson Udomah.

The source also told our correspondent that some other reasons the governor might consider to relieve Barr. Nwoko of his job include alleged poor handling of the state government cases and growing allegations that he might have been sleazing the state government of more funds than needed to execute cases.
He also hinted that the Commissioner for Justice is perceived to be ‘Akpabio boy’ and he appears to be sympathetic to the former governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who has since cross-carpeted from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Meanwhile, our correspondent had called Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko on phone to ascertain the veracity of the claims but he neither responded nor returned the call at the time of filing this report.
