March 9: Udom Will Not Go Scot Free – Chief Sunny Ibanga

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Sunny Ibanga, has slammed the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, over massive vote-buying in the just concluded general elections.
Speaking with newsmen weekend, Chief Ibanga accused the PDP-led state government under Mr. Udom Emmanuel of wasting taxpayers’ money meant for development on vote-buying, stressing how Ikot Ekpene is left without infrastructural development in four years.

According to him, “Only the blind will not see that Udom has spent four years and has done nothing in Ikot Ekpene, not even a groundbreaking,” he stressed.
Chief Ibanga further lamented how the workers in the state are not paid salaries for two months while the state funds are being used for vote-buying, believing that the state governor will be brought to account according to the dictates of democracy.
He said Mr. Udom Emmanuel is the first state governor issued with a warrant of arrest owing to financial fraud. However, this claim may not be unconnected to the bench warrant recently issued against four Akwa Ibom State officials by a Federal High court sitting in Lagos.
This followed an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the N1.4bn fraud charges against the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Paul Usoro (SAN).
Usoro was alleged to have committed the said corruption offences in complicity with certain government officials of Akwa Ibom state, that include, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Uwemedimo Nwoko; the Cashier at the Akwa Ibom State government house, Margaret Ukpe; state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Linus Nkan; and the Accountant General of the state, Mfon Jacobson Udomah.
According to media report, one of the alleged accomplices to the financial crime is Emmanuel Udom, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, whom the EFCC acknowledged is currently constitutionally immune to criminal prosecution.
