Don’t Be A Governor For Only PDP – Ibibio Group Advises Udom

A prominent socio-cultural
group in Ibibio nation has urged Governor Udom Emmanuel to be magnanimous in
discharging his mandate, advising him not to preclude citizens that have no
political affiliation with the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, from
participating in the governance of Akwa Ibom State.
The group, Ukai Ibibio, which is
a youth wing of Akwa Imaisong Ibibio, through its leader, Etubom Ukai Udeme
Emmanuel, called on the state governor during the world press conference held in
Uyo yesterday, to throw the door of his government open for all candidates that
participated in the just concluded general elections.
“We are here to plead that
election have come and gone, everybody should sheath their sword; all hands
should be on deck for the sake of peace and development of our dear state.
“Now that the elections are
over, we call on Governor Udom Emmanuel to please lead the State as the
governor of Akwa Ibom State and not the governor of the Peoples’ Democratic
Party (PDP).
“We are pleading with him to
please incorporate all candidates who contested the election with him to tap
from their ideas they had in their blueprints toward the betterment of the
state,” the group said.
In order to achieve the
much-talked about unity in the state, the group further advised the state
governor to spread his industrialization and other developmental projects
across the three Senatorial districts and other ethnic groups in the state.
Ukai Ibibio, which serves as a
grand custodian of Ibibio nation, lauded all the leaders of Ibibio extraction for
working with their counterparts from other ethnic groups to maintain the
existing unity in the state by way of fashioning out acceptable zoning formula of
the governorship office among the three senatorial districts. The group commended
Annang and Oron nations for adhering to the senatorial accord which saw Mr.
Udom Emmanuel returned to complete his second term.
They further congratulated
President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Udom Emmanuel for their reelection, and
applauded all the senatorial, House of Representatives and state Assembly
candidates on their victory at the polls.
The group, led by Ukai Udeme
Emmanuel, who is currently a Vice Chairman in Uyo local government council, later
paid homage to Obong Dr.Essien Ekidem, the Ntisong III, at his palace in Uyo.
Obong Ekidem, who was very
pleased to receive the leadership of the group he inaugurated in December 2010,
thanked all the Ibibio people and all the Nigerian citizens who came together
to ensure the country had a successful general elections.
Also, the Speaker (Akwa-Iko) of
Akwa Esop Ima-isong Ibibio, Otuekong (Dr.) Cyril Ekiko, was visited by Ukai
Ibibio team yesterday, and was appreciated for his commitment towards a
peaceful and successful general elections.
