Only God Can Exorcise Akwa Ibom From Demons Of Deceits

Second week of December 2018
was quite a week with all its unimaginative hilarities in Akwa Ibom political
terrain. Looking at the ensued events from the tail end of the week to the
early start, we had bizarre fragments of narratives that uncover desperate
shams machinated by the government of the day not for the common good of the
citizenry but for the self-serving interest of clinging onto power beyond 2019.
Indeed, weekend’s commissioning of rice processing mill, Agricon Rice Factory,
in Ini local government area was another event that exposed rice productivity
situation that, for some times now, is reeked by cover-ups, half-truths and
outright deceits. Was it not in Akwa Ibom that the government announced, more
than five months ago before the recent mill inauguration, that the state was
producing over 10,000 tonnes of rice? To make the surreal claim has semblance
of truth, according to media report, the state government had to re-bag imported
rice for the world to see how rice-sufficient Akwa Ibom could be under the
leadership of Mr. Udom Emmanuel. On Saturday 15 December, 2018, the same state
government inaugurated its first rice mill but the gaiety and pomp of the
ceremony was immediately spoilt by a miserable screenshot of Divine Mandate
Media Team’s Whatsapp group that eventually surfaced online and gone viral. No one
can conceal fire in the cloth of course: the group chats pointed to the fact
that raw rice millets were not from Akwa Ibom despite claims of preponderance
of homegrown rice. Whether the raw materials of the rice were sourced from
Adamawa or not, the OnlyGod political canvassers’ attempt to redact from the Whatsapp
forum the picture of a bag of rice with Adamawa tag indicates that there's more to this than
meets the eye.
During Dr.
(Mrs.) Aisha Buhari’s visit to the state on Friday 14th December,
2018, yours truly was thinking Governor Udom Emmanuel’s wife, Martha, would be
following the Nigeria’s First Lady to the APC’s campaign ground, hence the needless
melodrama at the Victor Attah International Airport. Had Mrs. Emmanuel joined
the APC campaign team to the venue, Senator Godswill Akpabio could have possibly
welcomed her to the venue anyway, but he wouldn’t have stopped rattling her with
a sort of introduction as the wife of the outgoing governor, whose husband lies
about Fertilizer Blending Plant in Abak, where youths were hired and paid
N2,000 each to wear T-shirts and parade
themselves as the staff of the fertilizer company. Akpabio wouldn’t have
hesitated to tell the Governor’s wife how deceitful her husband’s government
is. Although Martha wasn’t there, the Senator had spoken his mind at the
campaign ground.
Still in
the second week, precisely December 10, Akwa Ibom was overtaken by tale of
20,000 APC members defected to PDP with the reception at Ibom Hall Grounds in Uyo. Some of the
alleged persons listed to have defected, came out to vehemently debunk their
association with the PDP. In the words of Engr. Uduakobong Okpo whose name was
included as one of the defectors, "None of the people they listed
defected. None of the people you've seen here today defected. I want
the world to know that the purported defection is a figment of their own
imagination. What you saw today on TV was advanced political fraud, it is a
scam."
If Mr.
Okpo’s words were anything to go by, then the PDP could be a palindrome
interpreted as ‘People Deceiving People,’ whose meaning can never change
whether you start reading it from forward or backward position. It is a shame and
a height of insensitivity that cerebration would occur on a day that could have
been set aside for a solemn assembly to observe the second anniversary of
Reigners Church building collapse- an event that claimed many human lives in
the state. The death of so many Akwa Ibomites didn’t worry Udom-led PDP government
that has irrevocable obligation to safeguard the lives of its citizens. The
OnlyGod PDP campaigners forgot to read Ecclesiastes 7:2 (NIV) which says, “It
is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for
death is the destiny of everyone.” Udom Emmanuel and co-PDP political
sojourners staged a defection jamboree on faulty grounds and ignored the
victims of church collapse on the day of mourning, OnlyGod.
Monday 10th
December, 2018 marked the second anniversary of the Reigners Church building
collapse. The question is: does the world ever think how the aftermath of the
sad incident affects the victims and the relatives of the departed ones? They
have tear-jerking stories of neglect and abandonment to tell. On December 10, 2016, a lot of people from
Akwa Ibom State and beyond were drawn to the Reigners Bible Church in Uyo to
witness the bishopric consecration of Apostle (Dr.) Akan Weeks. What attracted
the members of the public even more to the Golgotha of death was the presence
of the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. As the roof caved in, lives were
lost, injuries sustained, families life pattern altered, and their lives will
never remain the same, forever.
