Ex-Councillors Back Ekere

The Association of Former Elected Councillors (AFECO) in Akwa Ibom State has endorsed the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives' Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere, for the 2019 election.

Members of the State Council of the association announced the endorsement during a solidarity visit to Ekere at his campaign office in Uyo on Saturday night.
The President of the association, Mr. Emmanuel Inyang, who read their position, said the decision to adopt Ekere as their sole candidate was taken at an enlarged State Council meeting of the association held recently.
Inyang disclosed that the former councillors also resolved to support all other APC candidates in the elections.
He said that the 31 Chapter Chairmen of the association were directed to hold meetings in their respective local government areas to inform members of the decision and to start mobilizing members accordingly.
Inyang informed Ekere that at their meeting, they totally condemned what they termed as "non-inclusive governance" and poor reward system operated by the present State Government.
Responding, Ekere thanked the former councillors for the endorsement which he described as strategic.
"All politics is local. If all the former elected councillors in Akwa Ibom State have come to say that they have adopted me, what more do I want?" he said.
Ekere noted with delight the assertion by the former councillors that 70 per cent of them were already in APC and directed that they be fully integrated in his campaign organization especially at the ward level.
He promised that the former councillors, who number over 2,000, will form part and parcel of his administration.
The visit was witnessed by the Deputy Director-General of the APC Campaign Organization, Abom Tony Esu, and the Chairman of the Mobilization Committee of the organization, Archbishop Samuel Akpan
