2019: A’Ibom Students Finally Settle For Nsima Ekere … As APC Receives Defectors From 12 LGAs
By UbongAbasi Ise
This weekend seems quite momentous
for the governorship aspirant, Obong Nsima Ekere of the All Progressives
Congress, APC, as hundreds of thousands of Akwa Ibom students finally declared
to support his gubernatorial ambition while thousands of persons from over 10
local government areas of the state joined the APC fold from the camp of the Peoples’
Democratic Party, PDP.

During the annual
International Students' Day Celebration yesterday, Akwa Ibom Students under the
aegis of National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students, NAAKIS, Worldwide, led
by their executive Presidents from various chapters domiciled in the tertiary
institutions, gathered in Uyo in numbers and adopted Obong Nsima Ekere as their
preferred candidate for 2019 gubernatorial race.

Their decision to pitch tent
with the former deputy governor is not unconnected to the perceived unresponsiveness
of the present PDP-led state government towards students’ welfare as NAAKIS often
complained of non-payment of bursaries, offer of scholarships and
implementation of health insurance scheme since Governor Udom Emmanuel took
over power in 2015.

on behalf of the defectors, promised to commit their strength to the APC two
