On the side of the APC, materials for senate direct primary election was brought on Thursday evening by the Chairman of the primary election committee for Akwa Ibom State, Barr. Yamah Momoh and were distributed to all the 31 local government areas and the 329 wards in the state.
Addressing the party stakeholders at APC secretariat in Uyo, Mr. Ini Okopido said why Momoh's committee is directed to return for the legislative primaries in the state is because the panel performed creditably in the just concluded party's gubernatorial primary election where Obong Nsima Ekere emerged overall winner.
It would be recalled that Obong Nsima Ekere had polled 160,458 to emerge the overall winner. He was closely followed by Barr. Bassey Dan-Abia, who had 4,189 votes, with the former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, emerging third on the log scoring the total of 2,015 votes in his third outing as a governorship aspirant, while Dr. Edet Efretuei, trailed behind with 1,234 votes.
Mr. Ekere will square up against the incumbent governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who will be flying PDP's flag in next year's gubernatorial race.
