2019: Nsima Ekere Picks Amadu Atai As Running Mate … As Udom, Wife Set To Lose Grip On Abak Five

Obong Nsima Ekere, the flag-bearer of All Progressives Congress, APC, has appointed the immediate past APC State Chapter Chairman, Dr. Amadu Atai, as his running mate ahead of 2019 gubernatorial election.

Taking to his twitter handle earlier, Obong Nsima Ekere announced Dr. Atai as his deputy describing him as a hardworking, dedicated party and family man as well as an extraordinary intellectual.
Ekere said the former party chairman will be a good Deputy Governor.
“I am delighted to announce that I have chosen a hardworking, dedicated party and family man, Dr. Amadu Atai as my running mate for the 2019 governorship elections in AkwaIbom State.
“As the founding State Chairman of the APC, Dr. Atai worked tirelessly to build a strong and formidable party in Akwa Ibom State.
“Dr. Atai is an extraordinary intellectual with a Ph.D in Political Science. I am honored to have known and worked with this detribalized son of Akwa Ibom State, who has worked very hard to build bridges of hope and opportunities for our people.
“He will be a good Deputy Governor,” the tweets read.

Explaining his choice of Dr. Amadu Atai, the governorship hopeful said “his passion for the progress and transformation of Akwa Ibom State makes him the right choice.”
Obong Nsima Ekere further called on his supporters to join him to welcome Atai, a great party man to the Ekere-Atai Ticket as they set forth on the journey to bring change to Akwa Ibom State.
Meanwhile, Dr. Amadu Atai choice to deputize Ekere is likely to constitute a serious hit to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s ambition as he may end up receiving entirely divided support from Abak Five given the fact that his wife, Martha, hails from Oruk Anam local government area as Amadu Atai.
With the emergence of Atai as a deputy governorship hopeful on the platform of APC, Abak Five Division comprising of Abak, Oruk Anam, Ukanafun, Etim Ekpo and Ika local government areas, may withdraw their support from Mr. Udom Emmanuel, their son in-law, for Obong Nsima Ekere who will be teaming up with their own son, Dr. Amadu Atai. The switch in the support may not be unconnected to the prevailing complaints of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s neglect of Abak Five Division despite his wife coming from the area, and they may prefer to throw their weight behind Ekere-Atai ticket, especially as the indigenes of the Abak Five, in a solidarity rally, acknowledged Nsima Ekere’s development stride in the area through the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
