SDF Defends Udom Over Reopening Of Churches

By UbongAbasi Ise

Despite concerns arising from the decision of Governor Udom Emmanuel to lift the ban on church services and related activities in the state amidst increasing record of Covid-19 confirmed cases in the country,  the church youths under the umbrella of Sons and Daughters of Faith, SDF, are of belief that the state governor is taking a right step following wide consultation of knowledgeable stakeholders.

In a statement yesterday by the National President, Pastor Etop Nathaniel, the SDF said Governor Emmanuel was acting out of expediency as he banned church events in order to limit the spread of Covid-19 virus in the state.

"We, the church youths under the umbrella of Sons and Daughters of Faith (SDF), are delighted on receiving a good news that the Christian faithful in Akwa Ibom State will, on Sunday 7th June, 2020, be returning to their respective church auditoriums to continue with the worship the Almighty God, our Creator.

"We know that it was hard on our dear Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, being a fervent Christian, to place a ban on all church services and related activities as a way of containing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Akwa Ibom State. As the saying goes, desperate times call for desperate measures, the State Governor was constrained to take such a drastic step for the general good of the people and for the survival of humanity.

"In his wisdom, the Governor has lifted the ban following wide consultation with knowledgeable stakeholders. We applaud him for hearkening to the wise recommendations and taking a step of faith to ease the lockdown so that the children of God could return to the ways of worship," the statement reads.

The group also commended the Christian faithful in the state for complying with the governor's directives as obedience to government is synonymous with obedience to God.
"We equally thank all church denominations for their compliance to the difficult but necessary order that has been in force for months. Their willingness to adhere to the government's order was simply an obedience to God. For Romans 13:1-2 says: "Obey the government, for God is the One who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who refuse to obey the law of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow,"" the SDF submits.

The church youths also appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for declaring a 3-day fasting in Akwa Ibom State from 1st to 3rd June 2020, adding that "This is the best way of handing the state to God in times like these."
