A’Ibomites And The New Trend Of Money Making

By UbongAbasi Ise

Celebrated Akwa Ibom movie star and comedian, Mr. Ime Bishop Umoh, popularly known as Okon Lagos, along with famed Nollywood artistes, John Okafor a.k.a. Mr. Ibu, Victor Osuagwu, and Harry B Anyanwu, were all delight to behold as they stormed the premises of #37 Abak Road in Uyo on Wednesday 5th February, 2020 to thrill hundreds of Akwa Ibom residents that filled the place beyond its perimeter. The event was not solely for the entertainment treat, but was primarily organized to unveil a new telecommunication brand in town that comes with the promises of snatching thousands of Akwa Ibom people from the clutches of financial hardship and unemployment. With the representatives of the state and the local governments joining the glitterati of business elites at the venue, it becomes apparent that the Resolution Technologies is coming to Akwa Ibom to reshape the state’s economic terrain.

What Will Resolution Technology Do In Akwa Ibom For Akwa Ibomites?
The business strategy of the 21st century is not all about digitalizing but it has a whole lot to do with finding a niche in the highly competitive market. Since the world goes digital, credit for voice calls and data for online surfing have become blood and oxygen for one to stay alive in the world of information and communication technology. As statistics shows, the number of smartphone users in the world is about 3.5 billion, which translates to 45.12% of the world’s population owning a smartphone while over 25 million of Nigerians are said have been with smartphones that access internet. The bottom-line is that, all these people using phones are increasingly buying airtime and data bundles on regular basis to ensure they access information anytime. But the cash they spend are irrecoverable. If the value of all the amounts of money that individuals uses annually to buy airtime and purchase data bundles are established, one would become astounded on discovering that thousands and millions of naira  have missed road. On this backdrop, the Resolution Technologies, having discovered this niche, designed an online platform that offers airtime, data, utility bills, online shopping, hotel booking, and much more at discounted prices to its subscribers. One peculiar aspect is that subscribers to this platform also earn Resolution Technologies’ profits while they are spending on services. Speaking with The Sensor shortly after the inauguration of Resolution Technologies, Mr. Faithful Samuel, the chief executive officer of the company, said it is because of the power of profit sharing system employed by the company that stimulated the need to empower all Akwa Ibomites. The ICT guru said the company is aiming to empower at least 5,000 Akwa Ibomites in six months from now, and to have offices all over the federation.
“It is our eagerness to expose what we have at heart to the people of Akwa Ibom State. So here at Resolutions Technology, we have a vision.  Because of the power of profit sharing system that we developed with the technology, we want to use it to empower all Akwa Ibomites through communication system. You know people spends much in telecommunication, buying airtime and data but don't make money. We have brought a system that allows them to get back the value and commission whenever they make use of their phones. With this dream, we are aiming to empower at least 5,000 Akwa Ibomites in six months time from now. So we have gotten a big office here in Akwa Ibom State; we have office in Port Harcourt, Lagos and Abuja. Our target is to have our offices in all the 36 states of the federation.
He said free training would be conducted for interested persons free of charge in the state.
“Here in Akwa Ibom State, we have a training center that we will be training people in different skills for free. So since I, the CEO of this company is an Akwa Ibomite;  I will be given opportunity for people to be trained for free. It is a technology that people have been watching on television, seeing the white man performing the magic, that magic has been brought down here in Akwa Ibom State for everybody to learn free of charge. So we are here to stay; we are here to eradicate poverty; and we are here to empower people. That's why our name is Resolution Technologies which has to do with solving problem. With the spirit of the dakadda of our governor, we want all Akwa Ibomites to join hands with us and arise for a better future,” he said.
When asked how sustainable would the business be, Mr. Faithful Samuel said as far as people are making use of their phones, buying airtime, data; and paying bills, Resolution Technologies will be there, adding that the company would only go down when people are no longer using telecommunication services.
“As far as people keep on making use of their phones, buying airtime and data, paying bills, chatting with their phones, Resolution Technologies will be there because that is the core sector of our services. The company would only go down when people are not using telecommunication services anymore. Is that possible? Instead of being possible it is impossible because the world would be continuing to be a digital instead of returning to analog. So the system that we have is the system that even in the next 40 years, your family and generation will still enjoy,” said the CEO.
Samuel wouldn’t support people to be seeking handouts instead of being encouraged to be productive. On this note, he urged government to partner with the Resolution Technologies to assist people to get a lifeline.
“If people are given money, they would come back tomorrow. I urge the government of Akwa Ibom State to join hand with Resolution Technologies to empower people because when you empower them, you too would be empowered. That person would not come back to say, yem mkpo nno (find something for me). So we are trying to solve the issue of beggary. We are stopping it with the help of this technology. Government can empower many people to join this system in order to make money and start a telecommunication business with their phones. So we have brought telecommunication service, why telecommunication? It is because telecommunication business has become the new oil and gas business in the country now. So everybody needs this to survive; it is the powerful system that we have and we urge the government to also join hand with us to use this system and empower as many people as possible,” said the CEO.

Government Support
Mr. Frank Archibong, the executive chairman of Eket local government council who also heads the college of chairmen of the 31 local government areas, pledged during the inaugural event to take the message of the new technology to his fellow chairmen so that they would spread it in their own domains in order to tackle protracted problem of unemployment especially in the rural areas. The Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Prince Ukpong Akpabio, who was represented by the Director of Investment in the ministry, Dr. Okon Esu, tasked Akwa Ibomites to develop entrepreneurial spirit, thrive to come out with ideas, and stay prepared for any opportunity that the government may offer.

Okon Lagos And Motivation
The comic actor, Ime Bishop Umoh (Okon Lagos) is better known for his humorous role. But on the day of the launching of the Resolution Technologies, he presented his sober self and took time to encourage Akwa Ibomites to be industrious and resilient. Setting himself as example, the actor narrated how he earned paltry N500 in his first act back then in 2004 but lose it to the treachery of a cloth dealer. He had to fight on till he become what he is today.
According to him, “I didn’t stop or chicken out. I forged ahead from that N500 incidence, and with resilience, the money has multiplied today.”
Okon Lagos is the brand ambassador of the Resolution Technologies. While speaking with The Sensor after the inauguration, he charged Akwa Ibomites to embrace the opportunity brought by the firm with both hands.
Umoh said he has a whole lot of things under his sleeves to contribute for the growth of young budding artistes in Akwa Ibom State.
He maintained that what he has in stock for the new generation of entertainers is not to be subjected to public scrutiny, hinting that time is approaching to hand over the baton to the  new generation.
“We definitely, will pass on the baton to the younger generation. Most of the things I am doing to prep the younger generation are intangible. It's not like I'm going to build a physical structure you can see with bricks and roof and say this is an artistes’ school but I'm here trying to offer motivation, trying to ignite fire in every Akwa Ibom young mind in order to rise to the faith of greatness.
“So I'm trying to do something intangible that is not open to public scrutiny. It is a kind of abstract. I'm trying to wake the spirit of self reliance in the minds of average Akwa Ibom young person,” said the actor.
Ime Bishop Umoh said it takes zeal and enthusiasm to forge ahead in the entertainment industry, while encouraging Akwa Ibom artistes to shun excuses, and be resilient so that when opportunity comes, it meets them prepared.
“Those in Akwa Ibom state entertainment sector needs to have zeal and drive. They need to be enthusiastic; they need to be in sync with the philosophy of dakadda. They don’t  have go round with excuses, but to forge a better life for themselves, taking smart decisions,  building up their zeal, and sharpening their skills, while maintaining diligence, dedication and resilience so that when the opportunity comes knocking, it comes to meet them prepared,” he said.
