Akpabio’s Men Lifted: Victor Antai, NDDC Commissioner, Otobong Ndem, NDDC Projects Director

 By UbongAbasi Ise
Two Akwa Ibomites have been named for roles in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, by the presidency.

The Sensor has reliably been informed that Sir Victor Antai is the new NDDC commissioner for Akwa Ibom State, while Mr. Otobong Ndem becomes the new Director of Projects for the commission.

Victor Antai was a two-term council chairman of Mbo local government area and former state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as well as Culture and Tourism.

Antai moved from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC upon the defection of Senator Godswill Akpabio. This immediately earned him a sack by Governor Udom Emmanuel who relieved him of his job as the commissioner for Culture and Tourism on August 7, 2018.

His major setback came when he contested for the seat of Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko Federal Constituency in the 2019 general election, which was allegedly flawed by irregularities and malpractices.

On the other hand, Mr. Otobong Ndem, member who represented Mkpat Enin state constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, in October 2018, dumped the PDP to join Senator Godswill Akpabio in the APC.
Five of them who took similar decision in the state house of assembly led by Barr, Onofiok Luke were apparently declared “enemies of the state.” Thunder-like turmoil hit the House, and the crisis moved from the attack on lawmakers who actually appointed a speaker for themselves, to the involvement of the security agents and finally a court decision that declared their seats vacant.
Recall that five members of the State House of Assembly defected to join Senator Akpabio. They include Mr. Victor Udofia (Ikono/Ini); Mr. Gabriel Toby (Etim Ekpo/Ika); Sir Nse Ntuen (Essien Udim); Prince Idongesit Ituen (Itu); and Mr. Otobong Ndem (Mkpat Enin).
Beside Mr. Victor Antai, the other commissioner who left Governor Udom’s cabinet as was constituted then to join Senator Godswill Akpabio in the APC was Barr. Ibanga Akpabio – then in charge of ministry of Labour, Productivity and Manpower Development.
