March 9 Polls: Nigerian Students Opt For Nsima Ekere

Ahead of Saturday March 9 gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom State, Comr. Danielson Akpan, the President of National Association of Nigerian Students,NANS, has urged all the Nigerian Students residing in Akwa Ibom State to vote for Obong Nsima Ekere at Gubernatorial polls.
Akpan, an indigene of Ikono Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, while fielding  questions from our correspondent in the State Monday during the Presidential visit thanked the Students for re-electing President Buhari and implore them to ensure that their vote counts for Nsima Ekere on Saturday, March 9.
His words, "I thank the Nigerian Students for re-electing  President Buhari during the just concluded Presidential election, I  implore them to also do the same to Obong Nsima Ekere, because Akwa Ibom Students deserve the best.
"I am here with them  in their numbers across their different institution to pay solidarity to the President today on his arrival  resulting from the president good gesture in showing appreciation to the people for their contributions towards his victory at the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly election.
“We are also here to tell him that we are glad on his victory which God gave him at the poll, we called on him to do even beyond what he laid out in his blue prints  for us".
When asked on why the Nigerian Students are solidly in support of the candidacy of Obong Nsima Ekere against the incumbent Governor's re-election  in Akwa Ibom state,  he said Governor Udom Emmanuel has done nothing to deserve reelection.
"It's always said that one good turn deserves another, in this case  governor Udom Emmanuel has been given the one good turn and he has done nothing for us to deserves our backing ,we have no other option than to vote him out and vote in someone who is ready to listen to the Nigerian Students, someone who will not play politics with us, someone who is seriously involved in the affairs of the Nigerian students.
"As far as we are  concerned the manifesto of Obong Nsima Ekere is convincing enough to accommodate us in his emergence, not just paying bursary for the  students but he has promised to increase it to twenty five thousand Naira(N25,000) which the incumbent Governor  failed to pay  common five thousand Naira (N5,000)  busary for good three and a half years of his administration which he included in his campaign promises during his electioneering campaign in 2015, he has simply failed us, we can not re-elect him, once beaten twice shy, he has been garnering speculations that there is no money in government to pay common bursary to students, today ask him how much he is buying vote in each political units, we have to resist the temptation of being used and dump this time around.
"This was why we called for a press conference and protest the other time that it is   embarrassing, an aberration on our intelligence, it's an insults for him to think that he can use the money he would have use for our welfare to buy us and make his way.

Akpan further said that before his emergence as the NANS president, he had earlier promised the Nigerian Students much in regards to their welfare as he is working round the clock to see that the rights of the students are not trampled upon and ensure that the leadership of NANS works with the right leaders that have the interest of the Students at heart.
"Well, if you have followed the trend you will see that ever since my emergence, I have leave up to the expectations of the Nigerian Students, I promised reformation, restructuring, repositioning and lots more, today you can see a lot of ugly trend that was trending in the Nigerian Students community is no longer obtainable.
"Recently, I  reinstated one of the political expel , the SUG President of Akwa Ibom State University,  Solomon Aniekpeno, who was rusticated in December, 2017. He has been on rustication for that long until I was able to dig into the root of the case and discovered that it was politically motivated and the issue has been resolved, he is back to school now.
"The Nigerian Students deserve the best, what I am interested in, is their welfare and to ensure that their interest is protected across board by working with the right leaders who have our interest and are ready to answer us at any given time," he said.
