Umobong Emerges Akwapoly Acting Rector


Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has approved the appointment of Dr. Moses Umobong as Acting Rector of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
This follows the retirement of the incumbent rector of the school, Dr. Israel Affia.
A statement signed by the Head of the State Civil Service, Mrs Ekereobong Akpan said the appointment of Dr. Umobong takes immediately effect.
According to the statement, Dr. Umobong is the most senior academic staff of the institution and his appointment is pending when a substantive Rector will be appointed.
The statement said Governor Emmanuel thanked the retired Rector and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Meanwhile, mixed reactions have trailed the retirement of Dr Affia and appointment of Dr Umobong. While a section of students and staff have applauded the achievements of the former Rector, some expressed dissatisfaction especially in the area of extortion in the name of "sorting" where lecturers force students to in order to pass their course.
Others applauded the coming on board of Dr Umobong, expressing the hope that he will reposition the formost polytechnic in the State for academic excellence.
