2019 Guber: PDP Commences Campaigns, Task INEC To Be Unbiased

By Asuquo Edem

As the intrigues towards the 2019 polls continue to gather momentum, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will today commence its campaign tour of the thirty-one local government areas with a call on the electoral umpire Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be unbiased so as not to “sniff life out of our fledging democracy”. Making remarks yesterday during a press briefing, the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Obong Paul Ekpo noted that the Party was emboldened by the massive pillars the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has erected in critical sectors of the State which he stated were basis to be used in soliciting for support to return the governor to the Hilltop Mansion in 2019.

He asserted that the Party places value on lives and dignity of Nigerians which is why it regularly looks for ways and avenues to make lives of the people better.
“For instance, the PDP in Akwa Ibom State, in keeping with the governance manifesto of His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel has instituted and sustained robust flagship initiatives geared towards the cultivation and growth of enterprise amongst our people”.
The Party Chairman also stated that the PDP in Akwa Ibom has given out over N10 million in prize money as seed capital or business support funds to Akwa Ibom people who are entrepreneurs irrespective of partisan learning or affiliation.
“We have trained no fewer than 324 men and women on different viable and sought-after skills like carpentry, finger foods, make-up, nylon production, interior decoration, tie and dye, paint making among others. We hope to double this figure before June next year”.
Obong Ekpo stated that the Party in acknowledging participatory democracy where power lies with the people, had established the tradition of in-depth grassroots mobilization, continuous membership recruitment while also staying closer to the people.
He said that the PDP was not ignorant of the schemes of the opposition in the State who were perfecting plans to deploy security agencies to arrest leaders of the PDP and loyalists of the governor on trumped up charges. “We would have thought that they have learnt sufficient lessons from the failures they have met in their earlier attempts at using federal might to intimidate members o f the Akwa Ibom project led by Governor Udom Emmanuel. Well, we assure them that they will always fail”.
He used the occasion to call on all political Parties to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner and desist from acts capable of threatening the peace the State has enjoyed through the benevolence of God as well as the effective leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
