Historic! A'Ibom Agog As Buhari Flags Off 2019 Campaign Today
For the first time in the history of Nigeria, a sitting President will begin his campaign in Akwa Ibom State in particular and South South geopolitical zone in general. This is said to be historic.
And a plus for the rebranding and re-energized All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State.
The Sensor learned that the State is already agog following President Buhari's planned visit to the State today.
Meanwhile, the chairman of local planning committee [LOC] for the official Flagg off of President Muhammadu Buhari 's re-election campaign in the South-South geo political zone slated to hold in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital schedules for today, 28 December 2018, Obong Umana Okon Umana has assured members of the party of a hitch free campaigns even as he welcomes Mr President and his entourage to Akwa Ibom State.
Umana, the 2015 APC Gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Akwa Ibom State who also serves as the Managing Director of Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone, made this known to newsmen in Uyo. According to him, " we are very delighted that during this season, the APC family in Akwa Ibom State is privileged to host rally to Flagg off campaigns of President Buhari in the South-South. As you have noticed, this is the very first time that Mr President is stepping out anywhere in Nigeria to launch his 2019 campaigns. So for us in Akwa Ibom State, the entire APC family, we are very excited and we are indeed very happy that we have been given an opportunity to host the flag off of South-South presidential rally in Uyo.
Confirming the event, Umana informed that the event is built for noon at the prestigious Godswill Obot Akpabio International Stadium (Nest of Champions), " since it is a national event, we are expected to host The President, The vice president, National Chairman of our party APC, all leaders of our party, National Working committee, APC Governors, Ministers, and APC members from all over Nigeria"
Speaking further, he eulogized Mr Buhari for a wonderful performance in just three years and some fractions of months, " the attendance and participation at the rally is a way of sending a message to Mr President that we appreciate what he has done for our people in terms of each strategic appointments which are given to our sons and daughters from Akwa Ibom State and clearly it is unprecedented because when you look at appointment that are based on the discretion of Mr President for example, the appointment of Sen Ita Enang as the Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters to the President you will know that this is strictly based on Mr President discretion and besides that, it favours akwa Ibom State for the very first time since the advent of democracy in 1999 and we don't take it for granted" " we have up to 60 Federal appointment by Mr President " he added.
On infrastructural development of the state by the Buhari led Federal government, Umana applauded the government of Buhari for massive infrastructural development in the South-South, saying "construction are being taken to Calabar, Itu, odukpani, Ikot Ekpene road, although in the past, you will find 200million Naira in the budget, but now we are talking about a contract of over 60Billion Naira awarded to a reputable company like Julius Berger who are already at site. Again, we don't take it for granted because in the past, Akwa Ibom State was totally cut off from the rest of the country. We couldn't go to calabar, Aba, Umuahia, we thank Mr President because Akwa Ibom State is now part of the infrastructural renaissance that is ravaging all parts of Nigeria and of course, programs like the N Power where over 500,000 graduates have been employed and over 14,000 Akwa Ibom graduates are beneficiaries. Akwa Ibom is also benefiting in the school feeding programme that is going on in 24 states and the impact of this programs on our children and parent again is something that the good people of Akwa Ibom State appreciate Mr President" He thanked Mr. President for non discrimination in the release of bailout funds to states in which Akwa Ibom State Government has received.
On his part, Sen Ita Enang intimated newsmen that the event will also feature Presentation of flags to gubernatorial candidate of the party in all states of the South South exclusion of Edo and Bayelsa whose states have their elections off season "it is also important to emphasize with appreciation to Akwa Ibom State Government that we are taking over the physical possession and occupancy of Godswill Obot Akpabio international Stadium and the advance team of Mr. President has also arrived the state in readiness and preparation for APC flag off on Friday”, he added.
Also, the State Chairman of the APC Akwa Ibom State, Mr Ini Okopido cleared the air that the Godswill Akpabio international Stadium has officially been approved by the Akwa Ibom State Government to host the APC South South flag off in Uyo on Friday and called on all party members in the state to give Mr President a warm welcome.
