Afe Annang Collapses ...Atai Afe Annang Takes-Over

The Annang Nation yesterday witnessed the historic emergence of a new apex socio-cultural organization, Atai Afe Annang which now replaces the Afe Annang.
The Sensor sources said the defunct Afe Annang with its leader Itai, Afe Annang, Okuku Pius Eside III have been rejected by the Annang people owing to discoveries that it now fell short of the expectations of a socio-cultural organization.
Our source said “historically the Annang nation established for itself, a socio-cultural organization to advance the cause of its heritage, language, culture and tradition. And these have all been pursued by previous leaders of the Afe Annang including Dr. Emmanuel Essien, Udom Eshiet and Professor Edidiong Ekpoudom. But since the Okuku Pius Eside reign,  Afe Annang took an ugly position to meddle in politics and then destroy the values of a social cultural group it was meant to be.
Our source recalled that in the past, Annang people had socio-political organizations such as Annang Study Group led by Dr. Ime Okopido and Annang Forum led by Chief Fidelis Etim and they were used for the pursuit of Annang political interest maintaining that the Afe Annang was to serve as an engine for the promotion and preservation of culture.
The Sensor learnt that in view of the compromise of the Afe Annang, the people of the land decided to install Atai Afe Annang an apex socio cultural organization that has immediately replaced the Afe Annang.
“Afe Annang is gone and this is for good. The rights, responsibilities and privilege of Afe Annang have been transferred to Atai Afe Annang” our source noted.
Speaking with The Sensor a prominent son of Annang land, Chief Emmanuel Akpabio said for over 60 years, there has not been an effective socio-cultural group of the Annang people, adding that “what has happened is that we have not had a focused organization that can drive the pride, consciousness and sensibilities of the people. Since 1957 during the Minority Commission of Enquiry in Nigeria, all Annang socio-cultural Organizations have no focus on how to develop Annang. Rather, we have had groups that always derailed into politics and bungled political issues. The result created disunity and widened the gap of economic poverty in the area”.
He revealed that Atai Afe Annang has as its key mandate to coordinate and advance economic and socio-cultural potentials of Annang land.
The Sensor learnt that Prof. Akpan Ibanga Akpan – former DVC, Akwa Ibom State University is the Protem Chairman of the Steering Committee.
