Many Nigerian Graduates Are Not Qualified To Hold SSCE – DIG Ekpoudom …As Tower of Ivory Schools Welcome New Staff, Students

By UbongAbasi Ise

The proprietor of Tower of Ivory Group of Schools, DIG Udom Ekpoudom, says some of the Nigerian graduates are unworthy to hold the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE).
Speaking with newsmen at Abak on Friday night shortly after the 2018/2019 Academic Session Welcome Party organized for the new employees and the newly enrolled students, Ekpoudom stressed that why public schools offer poor quality education is because graduates engaged as teachers are unemployable and are largely unqualified to be SSCE holders.
“Being an employer in the past few years, I discovered that many Nigerian graduates today are not qualified to be SSCE holders. They can’t work in the private sector, but when they go to the public schools government packed them,” he said.
The former Deputy Inspector General of police further decried how nepotism becomes a determining factor in the offer of employment in the public sector saying that many graduates that are employed on the basis of nepotism cannot offer what they do not have.
DIG Udom Ekpoudom further stressed that the standard of education in Akwa Ibom State is appearing to be going down, and it is not surprising to see people withdrawing their confidence in anything public.
According to him, public schools teachers are no longer disciplined. They go to school late, and sometimes concentrate more on selling their commodities during working hours. He added that the “intentions of teachers are not to teach the students but they are trying to survive.”
Ekpoudom advise the government to be very thorough in its recruitment processes and to provide good academic environment for the staff and the students for things to change for good.
Meanwhile, it was a thrilling experience for the new staff and the newly enrolled students of Tower of Ivory Group of Schools as the management of the institution welcomed them weekend to the 2018/2019 academic session with spectacular shows and entertainments at the school’s Assembly Hall at Ediene Abak.
Excitements reached crescendo when the school proprietor, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (rtd), along with his students, hit the dance floor with the latest Nigeria’s popular dance steps, shaku-shaku, holding the spectators spellbound.
On their part, the students were a delight to behold in the night as they showcased their exceptional talents in various entertaining performances. A handful of them took turn on the mic to thrill the audience with fantastic hip-hop, raps, and soul music, while many others showed their prowess in drama and various styles of dancing, with shaku shaku being the order of the day.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the bash, DIG Udom Ekpoudom said he danced for the students to emulate him and feel free to participate in the party without the influence of the “big man and big woman” factor.
He revealed that one of the school traditions is to welcome the new employees and students at the beginning of every academic year.
Ekpoudom said the school evolves a holistic approach to training for the all-round development of the students. While the school management tasks the students to be serious with their academic activities, they also exposed them to training in social life and sports with world class facilities.
He maintained that the schools are at the top of the pegging order as they have not lag behind in any field of human endeavours.
“We are not lagging behind in any aspect of human endeavours. If you want to talk about academic, we are number one; if you talk about socials, we don’t lag behind. Our system here is holistic.
“We prepare children for the task ahead because the world today is full of competitions. So the Tower of Ivory Schools is meant for that. It prepares students physically to face challenges globally,” he said.
The school proprietor further stated that the qualities that place the Tower of Ivory Group of Schools above other academic institutions in the country include discipline and the capability to guard the students against cultism and other forms of social vices prevalent in the society today.
Also speaking with newsmen, one of the new teachers, Ms Emilia Edet Udo, expressed delight to have  witnessed the celebration describing it as thrilling and interesting.
One of the school prefects, Miss Unyime Bassey Akpan, said the institution is at its best in academics, area of sports, social life, and other field of human endeavours, adding “that discipline is our watchword.”
