The Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and the governorship hopeful, Obong (Dr.) Nsima Ekere, has taken a swipe at the incumbent Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, saying his campaign team would soon expose all the tissues of lies the present PDP government has fed Akwa Ibomites with for over three years of its administration.
Ekere, who spoke weekend to the exhilarating crowd at the Uyo Towship Stadium during a solidarity rally organized in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari and himself, said it is time for Mr. Udom Emmanuel and the PDP to tell the people how they manage over N900 billion the state received in the life of this administration.
He sounded a clear warning to the PDP government that the NDDC is not in competition with the state government but an intervention agency set up to bridge the gap of development in the Niger Delta region.
“NDDC is not in competition with the state government; NDDC is there to intervene and bridge the gap, and that is what we have been doing all over the Niger Delta region.
“Let the PDP government in Akwa Ibom State not hide under the excuse of ‘what has the NDDC done?’ to hide their inefficiency and non-performance that they have unfortunately showed to Akwa Ibom people. Let them tell us how they have used over 900 billion that this governor has earned since he took over office. That is what Akwa Ibom people want to hear,”  Ekere said.
The APC governorship aspirant pledged to run a unity government should he wins the forthcoming gubernatorial election. He promised that all the past leaders, elders and those who laboured to make Akwa Ibom State great will be honoured and respected.
The Uyo crowd went euphoric when Obong Nsima Ekere said once he is voted into office he will rename the airport in the state, Obong Victor Attah International Airport, to immortalize him as a reward for envisioning the landmark project.
He further said that one of the beautiful dualized carriage ways constructed by the former governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, will be named after him (Akpabio) once he get into the office.
Late Obong Akpan Isemin, the former governor of the state, who was popular in fighting “etok-etok syndrome,”  or inferiority complex, in his honour, would have Ibom Tropicana named after him should Obong Nsima Ekere makes it to the Hilltop Mansion on 29th May, 2019.
Mr. Ekere was bemoaning the condition of the Ibom Deep Seaport project which was envisioned by Obong Victor Attah, stressing that when Mr. Udom Emmanuel came into power, he set up a committee for the project, only to leave the project to suffer neglect. He promised to complete the deep seaport project saying that it has the capacity to jumpstart the economy of Akwa Ibom State with the potential to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for the people.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on legislature matters, Senator Ita Enang, appreciated the leaders, elders, the youths and the entire people of Akwa Ibom State on their solidarity visit paid on him at Aso Rock on Monday, 18th September, 2018.
The President said that in the entire South-south, he has seen the greatest solidarity and unity expressed by the Akwa Ibom people, and the state shall be the ground from where the APC shall launch to conquer Rivers State, Bayelsa State, Delta State, Edo State, Cross River State, and entire south.
In a show of appreciation, Buhari promised the state not just the reconstruction but the dualization of Abak-Ekparakwa-Ete-Ikot Abasi Road while reiterating commitment to the construction of Oron-Calabar highway.
Meanwhile, Mr. Idongesit Ituen, an Akwa Ibom State House member representing Itu State Constituency, along with the Chairman of Itu youths led thousands of others from PDP to the APC, and they were received by the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Chapter of APC, Mr. Ini Okopido, amongst other prominent defectors into the APC fold.
