Gov. Udom’s Brother, Commissioner In Epic Scam … Issue Dud Cheques … EFCC To Uncover More Sleaze
By UbongAbasi Ise
Mr. Nkanang Gabriel Emmanuel, the elder brother to the AkwaIbom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, is strongly linked to a financial mess where the Commissioner for Economic Development, Idorenyin Sunday Udoh, is alleged to have swindled a common AkwaIbom man out of N24 million, leaving him all alone to face the wrath of the angry lenders.
From the available evidences, our correspondent gathered that Idorenyin Udoh had issued dud cheques in three tranches of N8 million each to Mr. Ubong Ekpe, an Eket resident, who facilitated N24 million interest-free loans to the commissioner on 28th of September 2017 with agreement to pay up on the 28th December, 2017.
Three UBA cheque leaves belonging to the Economic Development Commissioner who is currently serving under the present state government of Mr. Udom Emmanuel, all carry the date of 28th December, 2017, and were duly signed with the sum of N8 million written on them with numbers: 88583409 033200987 1008457841 01,88583449 033200982, 1008457841 01 and 88583450 033200987 1008457841 01. The cheque leaves bear the address, c-o 16-17 Beach Road, Jos (0252).
The issuance of dud cheque by the Nsit Atai-born commissioner, which is understood to be a criminal offence with dire consequence before the law, has attracted the attention of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, our correspondent learnt.
The creditor, Mr. Ubong Ekpe, who expected to gather all the money from Mr. Idorenyin Udoh since December last year in order to settle the lenders, has been left in total frustration as he couldn’t figure out what to do with the fake cheques, with the people he borrowed for the commissioner still on his neck.
As at the time of filing this report, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Economic Development is yet to repay the loan, The Sensor can authoritatively report.
Meanwhile, our correspondent has been told in strict confidence by a source close to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s family that the appointment of Mr. Idorenyin Udoh as a commissioner was midwifed by the Governor’s elder brother, Mr. Nkanang Emmanuel.
The source revealed that the commissioner has been helplessly servicing the goodwill of Mr. Nkanang Emmanuel since his appointment into the state cabinet, and the borrowed N24 million was probably going down the pockets of the Governor’s brother.
He further alleged that the commissioner had, in the past, sold his property in Abuja for about N200 million to settle Mr. Emmanuel, his mentor.
Before the filing of this report, our correspondent had made several attempts to get the commissioner’s comment but all to no avail, and his media assistant was no longer picking the calls.
