Eket Rally: A’Ibom Collapses For APC … As Nsima Ekere Declares For One Term As Governor … Former Governor Leads Thousands From PDP To APC

By UbongAbasi Ise

The oil city of Eket went agog today as Obong Nsima Ekere, the Managing Director of Niger-Delta Development Commission, NDDC, agreed to enter into gubernatorial race on the platform of All Progressives Congresses, APC, promising to serve only a term as the governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Obong Nsima Ekere, who was urged to enter into the gubernatorial race by the APC chieftains in the state, was given an APC Expression of Interest/ Nomination Form, which was presented to him by the leader of Akwa Ibom State Chapter of APC, Otuekong Don Etiebet, and the mammoth crowd at the venue was thrown into wild jubilation as the NDDC boss accepted to run but with the condition to spend only four years at the Hilltop Mansion in Uyo.
However, Ekere’s decision to serve just a tenure, has put to rest the anxiety of Uyo Senatorial District that any alternative to the incumbent Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who may likely require two term, would delay the Uyo Senatorial District’s turn to produce a state governor after 2023.
The former Deputy Governor, Lady Valerie Ebe, who served under the administration of Chief Godswill Akpabio, teamed up with Senator (Mrs.) Eme Ufot Ekaette to lead thousands of defectors from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the APC, and they were received by the State APC Chairman, Mr. Ini Okopido, and handed over to the National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, who was represented by Vice Chairman, APC South-South, Ntufam Hilliard-Eta.
Meanwhile, the presence of Senator Godswill Akpabio was quite electrifying to the crowd as he continuously called out to the Eket Senatorial District constituents to give maximum support for President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC gubernatorial candidate and others vying for positions on the platform of APC in the forthcoming general elections.
Surprise came when the duo of Otuekong Don Etiebet and Senator Godswill Akpabio hinted on the possible party consensus of the candidature of Obong Nsima Ekere in the forthcoming primaries coming later this month.
