5000 Teachers: Udom Must Apologize To Akwa Ibom People – Nsima Ekere, Lawyer
By UbongAbasi Ise
The counsel to 5,000 teachers, Barr. Clifford Thomas, has joined Obong Nsima Ekere, the APC governorship aspirant, to urge the incumbent state governor to tender unreserved apologies to Akwa Ibom people for wasting their mandate.
Speaking weekend at Uyo Township Stadium during a solidary rally organized on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari and himself, Ekere decried the underperformance and general poor human welfare attitude of the government of Mr. Udom Emmanuel. He believed that the state governor needs to beg the people of Akwa Ibom State for forgiveness over the poor performance of students in the West African Examination Certificate, WAEC.
He said instead of taking responsibility and apologize for the poor performance of Akwa Ibom students in the WAEC, the state government officials chose to interrogate to know the activities of NDDC without minding their mandate. He said: “let the PDP government in Ah Ibom State not hide under the excuse of ‘what has the NDDC done?’ to hide their inefficiency and non-performance that they have unfortunately showed to Akwa Ibom people. Let them tell us how they have used over 900 billion that this governor has earned since he took over office. That is what Akwa Ibom people want to hear,” Ekere said.
He sounded a clear warning to the PDP government that the NDDC is not in competition with the state government but an intervention agency set up to bridge the gap of development in the Niger Delta region
While speaking with our correspondent recently, Barr. Clifford Thomas said the present state government has a chance to redeem its battered image and forgive itself for offending the people.
“I think the present government even have opportunity to redeem its image by forgiving itself. The government must first forgive itself. Purge itself and then come out to beg the people they had offended.
Thomas said it is now very clear that the Akwa Ibom State Government has nothing to defend in court against his clients for wrongfully terminating of their teaching appointment.
He stressed that the 5000 teachers have more than 150,000 persons tied to their apron string who are their dependents.
According to the human rights lawyer, his clients are unperturbed as the justice will turn to their favour sooner or later.
“our clients will have cause to smile either now or hereafter. But the more they delay and prolong this thing, the bad it is for the government – whether the present government or any other government because the bills are accumulating and we will collect all to the last kobo,” he declared.
