A’Ibom Monarch Condemns Herdsmen Killing …Calls For Buhari Intervention

A royal father in the State, His
Highness, Obong Christian Essien, has condemned the activities of herdsmen that
have led to loss of many lives in the State. He has equally called on President
Muhammadu Buhari to take serious measures in ending the killing.
Obong Essien who is the village head of
Ikot Eka Ideh and the clan head of Obio Akpa bared his mind recently in his
palace while speaking with our reporter.
He noted that if the actions of the
herdsmen are not checked, it is capable of throwing the entire country into an
avoidable crisis. He also advised government at all levels to find a better
solution to the grazing of cows in the country.
The monarch who commended the leadership
qualities of Governor Udom Emmanuel especially in the area of security, payment
of salaries to civil servants, industrialization programmes and road projects,
said that the governor has done well and deserves encouragement to do more.
Obong Essien equally appreciated the
wife of the governor, Mrs. Martha Udom for her support to the less privilege in
the society especially the widows and orphans, saying that such support is
unequal in the history of the State.
While thanking the administration for
award of contract for the of Atim Akpeketo-Ikot Okoro-Ikot Ibritam road, the
monarch called on the contractor handling the road project and the State
Ministry of Works to speed up in executing the project in order to save the
people from an untold hardship experienced while plying the road.
In a related development, the monarch
has made a passionate appeal to Governor Udom Emmanuel to replace the outbreak
vehicles given to royal fathers in the State by the former administration,
saying that most of the vehicles given by former Governor Godswill Akpabio are
given them serious maintenance problem. He noted that the stipends they receive
do no-longer take care of the maintenance of the vehicles. He also appeal to
the government to provide adequate security to the royal fathers considering
the security challenges faced in their domain.
Reacting on the activities of some
youths which he said are inimical to development, the monarch who voluntrarily
retired from public service to abscond the throne, advised the youths to shun
violence and engage themselves in lawful ventures.
Meanwhile, coronation of Obong Christian
Essien as Clan Head of Obio Akpa will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at
Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa Campus Sports Ground.
