A’Ibom Is Marginalized - Atiku Cries Out

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says he is unable to point out at any project undertaken by the Federal Government in Akwa Ibom State. He said this when he visited the state on Wednesday to declare his ambition for the presidential race in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
Alhaji Abubakar said the height of infrastructural development Akwa Ibom is recorded today is solely achieved by the state government.
"I have known this state for a very long time, I cannot point out to a federal road in this state, a federal institution in this state or any major project in this state."
"All what has been achieved in this state in terms of development strides have been done by the government of this state," the Presidential hopeful declared.
He lauded Obong Victor Attah, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the incumbent, M.r Udom Emmanuel for laying strong foundation for the development and the prosperity of the state.
Alhaji Abubakar revealed he is seeking the Presidency in 2019 to bring about much needed unity and economic prosperity in the country.
He stressed that if the states and the local government councils are empowered with more resources, it would be possible for the people to hold their local leaders accountable either for progress or for the lack of it.
Abubakar expressed support for restructuring of Nigeria while disclosing that he was one of the products of the first federalism who enjoyed free and qualitative education with payment of a weekly pocket money up to university level in an era when oil was yet to be exploited.
He recalled that his primary and secondary education were completely funded by the local government whose officials then were not more than grade two or three holders but showed high level of patriotism and commitment to the development and prosperity of the local authority and the people.
While appreciating Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for showing concern about the situation in the country, Governor Udom Emmanuel said the people are expecting a much better Nigeria from 2019.
The Governor said that PDP leadership was looking forward to making the race much more interesting saying that the one ordained by God will prevail amongst the aspirants that will indicate interest.
As the 2019 race would be thrown opened, Mr. Emmanuel harped on business experience as a requisite ingredient for political office. According to him, “ if you cannot run a kiosk, you cannot run a supermarket, you cannot run a sole-proprietorship, you cannot run a multi-national, so experience is what is needed in businesses and ventures of this nature."
Those that accompanied the presidential aspirant to the state include: Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Niger State; Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Governor of Ogun state, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, amongst others.

Mr. Udom Emmanuel was joined at the meeting by his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Wife, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio. Others include Obong Paul Ekpo, the PDP State Chairman; Senator Anietie Okon, Senator Effiong Bob, Senator Ibokessien, Senator Helen Esuene, and some executive members of the Akwa Ibom State government.
