2019 Elections: Oruk Anam Group Roots For Udom, Akpabio, Udo Kierian

The leading political organization with a mandate of
supporting and promoting government policies in Oruk Anam Local Government Area,
Oruk Anam Grand Alliance, OGA, has declared its intention to support the trio
of Mr. Udom Emmanuel, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Sir Udo Kierian Akpan in the
forthcoming general elections scheduled for next year.
The declaration was made in a joint meeting of the
Executive, Advisers and Board of Trustees of the organization held recently in
Uyo after the group shopped for right candidates that would bring dividends of
democracy to the local government.
In a motion raised by the president of the organization,
Chief Bassey Essien, for the endorsement of Gov. Udom Emmanuel and Senator
Godswill Akpabio as sole governorship and senatorial candidates respectively,
Mr. Emmanuel Enang seconded the endorsement and every members present in the
meeting unanimously supported the decision.
Addressing the members of the organization earlier, Chief Essien
described the member representing Oruk Anam state constituency and the leader of
Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Sir Udo Kieran Akpan, as a “man that can
deliver, make Oruk Anam people proud; a
man who has performed better than previous House of Assembly members”. He
further nominated Sir Udo Kieran Akpan, being the principal of the organization,
for a re-run and called for his endorsement as a sole candidate. The motion to this
effect was seconded by Elder Okon Ekpo.
The former Oruk Anam Head of Council and the link man of the
organization and, Mr. Emmanuel Essien, further conducted a vote to sample the
opinion of the members and everyone unanimously voted in support of the motion
adopting the candidacy of Sir Akpan.
Speaking further, the president of the organization
reiterated that Sir Udo Kieran is still needed to drive the interest of Oruk
Anam people in the state. Drawing allusion to the western world, Bassey Essien
narrated that legislators don’t have limited number of tenure as they become
more effective with years of experience and as such a performing legislator can
go as many terms as possible. He made known of the plan by the organization to
increase its membership strength across the 13 wards of Oruk Anam local
government area.
The group also resolved that the secretary of the
organization should communicate as soon as possible to the affected politicians
in respect to the unanimous decision of the group.
Among other dignitaries that attended the meeting, were Mr.
Emmanuel Essien, Mr. Ekpedeme Udoinam, Mr. Reuben Utorio, Mr. Monday Ayara, Mr.
Ukandie Ukpe, Elder Okon Evans, Mr. Ezekiel Obosi, Mr. Okon Joseph Ekpo, Mr. Awasi-ubong
Udoumoh, and Mr. Festus Akpan including several others.
