A’Ibom Workers Stranded As HOCS Locks Gate

By Asuquo Edem

Civil servants under the employ of Akwa Ibom State Government who arrived the State Secretariat after 8.am would ever live to remember the first day in the month of February, 2018 as they received the shock of their lives with the Head of Civil Service, Mrs Ekereobong Akpan barring them from entering the Complex not to talk of accessing their various offices.
The Head of Civil Service who arrived the secretariat gate in company of other top Directors and Permanent Secretaries of the Civil Service as early as 7.45am, was shocked at the lackadaisical attitude of workers towards resuming duties on time, shut the main gates and allowed only those who came on time entry while those who arrived after 8.15am stood in their droves outside the gates. The crowd of stranded workers outside the gates was much to cause a gridlock around the axis.
Some of the workers were seen speaking in hush tones while some sat patiently along pavements on the road hoping that the HOCS would temper justice with mercy.
While making remarks, the HOCS, Mrs. Ekereobong Akpan said that arriving to duty post late was against the Civil Service rules while maintaining that it would no longer be business as usual. She noted that workers who defaulted the rules would be queried going by the rules of engagement.
