Akwa Ibom State’s major opposition party, APC, says they are set for political takeover in the state.
In a media parley in Uyo yesterday, Senator Aloysius Etok, the Chairman of APC Local Government Campaign Committee, said APC is prepared more than ever, and is set to make a bold statement in next month’s local government election as the party prepares to lay a solid foundation for the enduring process of taking over power come 2019.
“To show the level of preparedness, we are meeting here with Working Committee of the Party and the Local Government Election Planning and Implementation Committee. That shows the level of preparedness. We are more prepared than ever because we are going to make a bold statement through the upcoming election. As we are going to take over power come 2019, we are prepared to lay a solid foundation for enduring process of taking over power,” he said.
The Senator further said that APC would not be found wanting when the chips are down as the party would take over local government councils and go ahead to win the state in 2019 general elections.
While fielding questions from journalists, Senator Etok disclosed that APC would field 31 chairmanship candidates for 31 local government areas as well as 329 councillorship candidates for the 329 wards in the state.
He told newsmen that the ruling party, PDP, is currently amassing arms to make life uncomfortable, seeking to intimidate and injure those who would come out for elections.
Etok called on security agencies to take security notice and to ensure that there is peace during and after the election.
Meanwhile, the flag-off ceremony of APC Local Government Election campaign would take place on Saturday, 18th November 2017 at the Uyo township stadium by 10:00 am.
Dignitaries from the Presidency and high hierarchy of APC at national level are expected in the state to grace the event.
