Tragedy Hits AK Community As 2 Children Drown In Water



For the family of Ikpaisong Asuquo of Ikot Obong Ediene, Abak Local Government Area, Saturday, October 28, 2017 is a day that will remain saddest and indelible. This is as a result of the tragedy that struck the family when two children died in a mysterious circumstance.
The Sensor gathered that the two children aged 18 and 11 whose names could not be ascertain as at the time of filing this reports had on the fateful day gone to the neigbouring village, Ediene Ikot Akwa Ibom to fetch firewood.
It was further gathered that after fetching the firewood they decided to cool off in a stream. In the process, the stream water carried the younger one who is said to be a primary school pupil. The older brother who is an SS3 student of Comprehensive Secondary School Ediene, sensing that water has carried the younger sister, decided to jump into the water to pull her out but unfortunately the water also swept him.
Sources informed The Sensor that when the two children did not returned home as expected, a search party was sent to look for them. Their bodies was said to have been found floating on top of water prompting an enquiry into what happened.
A source further told The Sensor that members of the community were summoned to appear before the community square to find out why such could happen to the community. A member of the community alleged to have had a court case with the deceased children father conspiraciously disappeared and is yet to be found in the community, thus, fueling suspicion that he might be in the know of what happened to them.
Further investigation revealed that the court case between father to the deceased children and a member of the community said to be on the run was to take place last Monday.
Members of the community are said to be in the mourning mood following the unfortunate incident. A member of the community who gave his name as Elder Udofia said that the death of the two children is a shock to the community. He called on Law Enforcement Agent and the State Government to investigate the death he described as unnatural in order to ensure that such does not re-occur.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the two children are yet to be buried as at the time of filing this report. Members of the family were said to be consulting on the process of burying them as they died inside water.
A member of the family who spoke with our reporter amid tears described the death of the two children as a big blow to the family. The deceased parents could not be reach for comment as they were said to be in heavy tears.
