PDP Primaries: Council Chairmen Dragged To Court
A chieftain of All Progressive Congress, APC and candidate
in 2015 House of Assembly election in the State, Mr. Unyime Ekwere has dragged
to court, transition chairmen who resigned from office to contest Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP Primaries in the forth-coming local government election.
The Etinan born activist has urged the court sitting in Uyo
to determine whether those who voluntarily resigned their position to contest
for PDP ticket but lost have the right to return to their former seat. He
described the action of the transition chairman as abuse of office.
Investigation by The Sensor reveals that all the transition
chairmen who resigned have returned to office against the laws establishing the
administration of local government areas in the state.
Those said to have resigned to contest for PDP ticket were
Barr. Mfon Ben, Uyo; David Umanah, Ikot Ekpene; William Mkpa, Ibeno; Ekaette
Usip, Mkpat Enin, Inibehe Silas, Ika; Precious Selong, Urue Offiong/Oruko; Mfon
Bassey, Mbo local government areas.
Meanwhile, many concerned citizens of the State have called
on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to begin an investigation
into the activities of the resigned transition chairmen. Some of the citizens
who spoke with The sensor said that the council chairmen may have looted
council fund to contest for the primaries and that their investigation could unveil the truth about
financial status of their council.
“Let those council chairmen who took funds from their local
government pulse to contest election be made to account for such funds,” one of
the concerned citizens said.
