Engr.
Ndotenyin Ekanem took to social media following the Russia 2018 World Cup
qualifiers between Nigeria and Cameroon to reveal the State government’s
refusal in granting his N2million proposal for the installation of traffic
light with defaulters’ alarm for the public use. He stated that government
linked the non-approval to lack of funds.
Ekanem, who
registered his company, Alpha 1 Technical Services in 2007, wrote that he
invented the traffic light technology with his own money in 2012 and later
displayed it this year before the Governor, the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State
House of Assembly, Ministers and Commissioners with application for the
permission to install the technology for public use, but this was outrightly
refused on grounds of paucity of funds.
“2007 – I
registered a company with my money; 2012 – I invented a traffic light
technology with defaulters alarm with my money; 2017 – I showed it to speaker,
Governor, commissioners, ministers and applied for permission to install for
public consumption. Government said no approval, no fund. How much are we
talking about? N2M o!
“Now, some
millionaire players kicked ball into a net and immediately got $40,000 (over
14m). This is less than half of their salaries. Please is this not height of
hypocrisy?” the post reads.
The engineer,
who hails from Ini Local Government Area, further made a declaration that he
would no longer involve in public exhibitions as he would rather concentrate on
his business.
According to
him, “I hereby declare that I will never contribute my innovative ideas to this
State again. I rather face my business. No more public exhibitions. Amount
expended on those exhibitions could build me a good house.
“I weep for
our youths. I weep for my children’s future in a land where hard work does not
count but hypocrisy is the norm,”
In a chat with
The Sensor correspondent, Mr. Ekanem
disclosed how he was given paltry N5,000 for transport expenses during his last
exhibition in Uyo at the visit of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo. He
further recalled how Akwa Ibom representatives at Abuja Expo were given
N120,000 for transportation and accommodation in an event that lasted 7 days.

Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
