Fear Grips AK As Armed Bandit Escapes From Police Custody
In what is said to be a replica of what happened in Rivers State where a 24 year old kidnap and ritual suspect escaped from Police custody, an armed robbery suspect arrested last Tuesday at the premises of St. Patrick Quasi Parish, Obio Ndot, Oruk Anam local government area has escaped from Ikot Ubo Police Station where he was detained, causing panic among residents of that community.
The Sensor Crime Desk gathered that the suspect, one Ubong Imo Frank who is an indigene of Obio Ndot was said to have escaped through rooftop despite the fact that some policemen were on duty to man the cell.
It was further learnt that the suspect who had earlier mentioned four of his partners in crime had made life difficult for residents and churches in the community despite the fact that the community is the host to Abak Divisional Headquarters.
A resident of the area who spoke with our reporter in confidence said that there is an uneasy calm in the community as fear of more attack rages. He said, “Since the news of Ubong Imo Frank’s escape from the Police Cell was made public, residents are now living in fear of more attack.
Meanwhile, policemen at the Ikot Udo station are said to be trading blame over what led to the escape of the suspect. In one of such blame, it was gathered, a police corporal on duty was said to have abandoned his duty post, thus, making it possible for the suspect to escape. Another source said that the suspect escaped through the rooftop because of poor state of the facilities at the station.
When contacted, the State Police Command was yet to react to a text message sent as at the time of filing this report.
