World Bank Captures IBB Flood Control in 2018 Budget

The persistent flood situation along IBB avenue in Uyo will soon be a thing of the past as World Bank has captured the cost of an effective flood control system in their 2018 budget.

The commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr.Iniobong Essien dropped the hint when he inspected an intervention effort by the Akwa Ibom state government along Udo Inwang street in Uyo weekend.

According to the commissioner, the cost for the control of flood along IBB is high which  cannot be handled by the state government alone thus an assistance from World Bank under the Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Project.

"A lot of things are ongoing including the flooding at IBB avenue which is a source of worry. World Bank is interested and has captured it in their 2018 budget"

Dr Essien maintained that a lot has been achieved by the state government in reducing the speed of soil wash off saying the intervention is a temporary measure not a permanent solution. "Plans are almost concluded for Anua and Etim Umana and other gully erosion sites outside Uyo Capital City which have been captured in the second phase of what World Bank will do".

Dr. Essien who also monitored the level of compliance during the monthly sanitation frowned at non compliance by traders at Itam market saying government will no longer tolerate the flouting of the restriction order on movement and commended traders at Akpan Andem market for participating actively in the sanitation exercise.
