Revealed: A'Ibom Teachers Give Bribe For Gratuity, Promotion …Blast NUT For Plight

Retired Primary School Teachers in Akwa Ibom State have revealed that they were asked to give bribes in order to facilitate payment of their gratuities by the State government.
The teachers who spoke on condition of anonymity noted that even when they had complied by paying 200 each, they are still shocked that the gratuities are not yet paid.
The retirees who lamented that non-payment of their gratuities has made retirement life very painful because they have been rendered useless in the society pleaded with Governor Udom Emmanuel to take steps and approve payment of their gratuities (bulk amount of money given to retired persons to settle down to a new life)
Also, primary school teachers in the State have decried the shabby treatment meted to them either by delaying or non-payment of their entitlement. Some primary school teachers in Essien Udim local government area who spoke without Reporter yesterday, condemned the Nigerian Union of Teachers NUT, Akwa Ibom State, for not taking up the interest of primary school teachers to the government and relevant agencies for redress.
The primary school teachers who spoke on condition of anonymity disclosed that some of them were promoted since 2012, but have not received their promotion arrears and other benefits attached to their new positions.
They further disclosed that some persons in the ministry have been collecting money from them to further the course of the payment, regretting that in spite of the collections, they are not being paid.
