As the Super Eagles of Nigeria prepares to take on the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in a crunch world cup qualifier on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, the Nigeria Police Force, Akwa Ibom State Command say it has put in place adequate security arrangement to ensure a hitch-free match.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu disclosed this yesterday in a release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu. He said that over 700 specially selected officers are to provide security before, during and after the match.
“CP Zubairu Muazu is determined to guarantee that soccer loving Nigerians enjoy the football match under a peaceful atmosphere devoid of any infractions of law and has directed the deployment of over 700 specially selected officers knowledgeable in crowd control and policing events to provide top-notch security before, during and after the football match”, the release said.
The CP noted that due to influx of soccer fans into the State, adequate crime reduction strategies have been put in place to check crime and criminalities throughout the State. He said that the command in collaboration with other sister security agencies and stakeholders in sports administration are working to maintain security.
While urging all soccer fans visiting the stadium to conduct themselves in “a most orderly and hospitable manner”, as sports according to him is a veritable means to promote unity, solidarity and friendship, Muazu warned that the Police will not hesitate to deal decisively with miscreants and sports hooligans who may take an undue advantage of peace and security existing in the State to make trouble.
