Insecurity: Apostolic Youth Movement Sends Stern Message To FG
By UbongAbasi Ise
The National Youth Movement of
The Apostolic Church Nigeria has come out to express worries over the persisting
Fulani herdsmen crisis and the continued stay of Leah Sharibu in the custody of
Boko Haram as well as general insecurity situation threatening the future of
the youth in the country.
The leadership of the
movement, following its five days' National Youth Leaders Prayer Retreat,
addressed a press conference over weekend announcing that the youth of
The Apostolic Church Nigeria are the youth of the society and would not look
the other way while the security crisis in the country rages on.
While addressing the press,
the National Youth Leader of the movement, Apostle (Barr.) S.B. Inyang, stated
the readiness of the Apostolic youth to play a part in stemming the tides of
herdsmen crisis as well as joining hands in resolving other pressing issues
heating up the polity, while charging all Christians in the country to
come together and assist the government in proffering solutions to many
problems confronting the nation in order to save the future of the youth from
being destroyed.
"We will not close our
eyes to the herdsmen crisis and other controversies that are heating up the
system. While calling for peace, we are enjoining all churches and various
denominations, our Christian leaders to pray and to preach peace, harmony in
the system. It is the only country that we have. If this country is destroyed,
the future and destiny of our youth will be destroyed. So we call our leaders
to come together as a body to earnestly pray and assist the government anywhere
to proffer solution to problems confronting this nation," he said.
The leader of National Youth
Movement of The Apostolic Church Nigeria also reacted to the failure of the
federal government to free Leah Sharibu from the custody of Boko Haram
militants that abducted her on February 19, 2018 alongside 111 of her fellow
students from Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School in
Dapchi, including another schoolboy. Others had long been released, while Leah
Sharibu is still in the terrorists’ custody reportedly because of her
insistence not to let go her Christian faith.
According to Apostle (Barr.)
S.B. Inyang, “the case of one Leah Sharibu should not be ignored. She
represents the face of the youth; she represents our Christian faith. We are
made to understand that she is there because of her faith. As Christian youth,
we are touched by her steadfastness. So we therefore call on the federal
government to do everything possible to facilitate her release.”
Inyang said the youth, during
the five-day retreat, took into consideration various issues affecting the security
of the country and called on the federal government to protect the lives of the
youth as they are the strength of this nation.
“It is the function of every
government to protect lives and properties of its citizens. So we are calling
on the federal government to protect the lives of our youth, some of whom have
become victims of violence, terrorism of various kinds, violation and abuse. Of
course you would agree with me that majority of these people are within the age
bracket of 15 to 35 and we are losing out. This represents the strength of this
nation. We cannot afford to allow the situation to continue. While praying for
peace in this nation, we are calling on the government at the federal and the
state levels to go all out to protect the lives of our youth,” said Inyang.
The Apostolic youth leader the
country to believe in the youth given their creativity and ingenuity saying
they are not lazy but productive if given opportunity to prove themselves.
“We call on our fathers to
believe in us the youth. Youth of this nation are not lazy, rather, they are
productive, creative, and very intelligent and could be successful if given opportunity
to prove themselves,” he said.
Apostle (Barr.) S.B. Inyang said the National Youth
Movement is the creation of The Apostolic Church Nigeria through its leadership
in November 2018 to manage the affairs of the youth in the country. According
to him, “the youth of The Apostolic Church are equally the youth of the society.
To regulate the affairs of The Apostolic youth is also to regulate the affairs
of the youth in the larger society.”
