Excitement As Surveyors In A'Ibom End Annual General Assembly ...Members Insists On Use Of Professionals

For members of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, NIS Akwa Ibom State branch, December 13, 2018 will remain another memorable one in the history of one of the foremost and noble professional body as they rolled out their drums to celebrate Annual General Assembly, a memorial lecture in honour of Late Surv. Offiong Akpan Aqua Fris, and crowned it with a dinner. 
The event with a theme, “Physical Developments Out-picture Synergies of Professions of the Built Environment,” had who is who in the surveying profession including, the State Surveyor General, Sur. Mrs. Emem Isang, Sur. Okokon Essien, Surv. Clement Sunday Akpan, Surv. Chris Ekpo, the clan head of Ibesikpo, Etebom Nsidibe Etuk in attendance. 
Chaired by a renown taxation expert and State Chairman of Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria, APBN, Elder Joshua Asuquo, the event brought members of the organization together as they chat a direction for Surveying business in the State. 
In his remarks, Elder Asuquo praised the contributions of NIS to the development of the State in particular and Nigeria in general, noting that the profession has helped the country maximize her potentials. 
Asuquo, however, noted that Nigeria economy is currently suffering negative effect and need professionals like NIS and others to redeem it. 
According to him, “Nigeria Economy is suffering serious defect. It is only the professionals like NIS and others that can redeem it. It is therefore incumbent on members to synergize and share knowledge on how to improve the nation economy”. He also stressed the need for unity among members of professional bodies in the country. 
The former chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area and a fellow, Chartered Institution of Taxation of Nigeria while thanking members of the surveying profession for organizing the annual general assembly, he particularly commended them for recognizing the contributions of Late Sur. Offiong Aqua to the development of the State. He also thanked NIS for hosting APBN.
Asuquo used the occasion to assure NIS that any bill before the State House of Assembly which is targeting the witch-hunting of the organization will not see the light of the day. 
Also in his remarks, the father of the day, HRH Etebom Nsidibe Etuk, who thanked NIS for contributing to the development of the State and honouring Late Surv. Aqua, however, frowned at the activities of quacks and the back dating of survey plans, and called on the State Surveyor General and members of NIS to check the illegal activities in order not to give it a bad name.  
On her part, the State Surveyor General, Surv. Mrs. Emem Isang charged members of NIS to always do the right thing and not try to cut corners no matter the presence of influence. She noted that her leadership has put measures in place to check the activities of quacks and the backdating of survey plans. 
She equally charged professional surveyors to be mindful of survey plans that they sign so that unprofessionalism do not take an advantage of them. 
Isang who congratulated the State Chairman of NIS for taking the profession to the next level, also commended members for their support and making the annual general assembly a success. She stressed the need for regular celebration of members.
Earlier in his address, the State Chairman of NIS, Surv. Clement Akpan MNIS, expressed appreciation to members of the organization for making this year annual general assembly a success. Akpan who stressed the need for proficiency and creativity in surveying services noted that such will be the overall interest of the country. 
He, however, called on government at all levels to identify, recognize, and patronize professionals, their firms, and their organization as organized private employment outlets to cut down on the worrisome unemployment statistics amongst Nigerian graduates.
Our correspondent who attended the annual general assembly reports that the event features solemn prayers with sub-theme, “Ethics and Discipline in the Eyes of God,” delivered by the guest speaker, Pastor Emmanuel Bassey (A Surv); 2018 Inaugural Aqua Memorial Lectures titled, “Life and Time of Late Surv. Offiong Akpan Aqua, fris, delivered by Surv. Asuquo Ebong, and Aqua's Socio-Religious Life by Dr. Okon Ekanem; Digital Welfare Issues for Professionals (National Health Tips for All Gender and Ages) by Mrs Joy Ekwere, and Managing Personal Success by Mr. Michael Ukpong, among other activities.
